Hi All,
I recently got my M11x R3 & can't find the aliensense (facial recognition) application anywhere - I had assumed that it would be a command center option.
I've searched the FAQs/Dell support site, but couldn't unearth any tips for installing the application.
Anyone know what gives?
[The M11x is running Win 7 Pro, BTW - but wouldn't expect that to make any difference]

Some systems ship with AlienSense, some do not. On the R3 I believe it's an option at the time of purchase and it may be called FastAccess now instead of AlienSense. If it is it would no longer be in the command center, but instead would be in it's own folder in the Start menu.
If you don't have it, you can still download and install a trial version from the Sensible Vision website. -
Yeah mine doesn't have it and I don't recall seeing an option in the purchase process, but maybe it depends what country you're in. I don't miss it, it rarely worked for me anyway in my R2.
-
What specifically were you having difficulty with? In my experience the recognition is quite good so if you had a problem, I would love to help trouble-shoot. Since you don't have it anymore, you could install the trial version of FastAccess from the Sensible Vision website. If you didn't like it, it's a simple de-install.

Mine never worked either.
Most likely because I have the crappiest lighting in my room where I use it most of the time lol. That was the only issue I ever saw with it is that it always needed better lighting. It is all good though, the application in itself was pretty easy to use and set up.
Just not my cup of tea. -
Yes, decent lighting is helpful (as it is with all photography). If you didn't try it before, I'd recommend the "FaceBright" feature. This feature turns the login screen white which serves to throw additional light on the face. Depending on exactly how dark it is and how big and bright the screen is, FaceBright can certainly enable good recognition in otherwise marginal lighting conditions.

^ Very simple, but effective technique. Clever!

Yeah, I had the same problem. Dell still advertises that the M11x comes with Aliensense, but it doesn't! Thanks a lot Dell. I believe the bigger laptops still do. Anyway, I did find a work around.
Download and install Command Center for the M15x, overwriting whatever it asks: Drivers and Downloads
After you've done that you won't be able to open Command Center as this version is not compatible with the M11x, but you will have Aliensense after you reboot!
Now reinstall Command Center for your M11x: Drivers and Downloads
It should ask you if you want to perform a repair of Command Center, you do.
Once it's finished go ahead and reboot. You should now have a fully functioning Command Center with Aliensense integrated in as well. -
Awesome, works just as suggest. +Rep for you!
-
Wouldnt allow me to do a repair, due to a serious technical problem of it not finding the correct .msi file.
Ended up doing an uninstall instead of repair, then installed it...
But the conclusion is that Command Center works
and AlienSense works as well
logged me into the pc with it.
Thanks so much for the workout, it may not be the prettiest way to get it done, but damn did it get it done!
+REP
EDIT:
"sorry the application aliensense can not be launched. Would you like to continue loading Command Center?"
Added this quote, although aliensense logs me into the computer.. I cannot actually configure it
Not a big problem, I just wont configure it
Although I cannot load it up to change anything if I had to lol -
Great Tip - Thanks. Here is what worked for me:
1) Deinstalled M11x R3 Command Center
2) Downloaded and installed M15x Command Center - AlienSense worked
3) Downloaded the M11xR3 Command Center and installed over the top.
4) Following the upgrade upon going into the FX page of Command Center I got several nasty errors and it may have even crashed once or twice.
5) Back in Command Center on the FX page I selected the picture in Mid-right upper center of M11xR3 (there is an unsupported Chassis listed as well)
Following this I have no more erorrs, Command Center seems fully functional including the FX and AlienSense tabs.
Thanks again for the lead and directions! -
Fella above has it spot on that is how I did it too.
Any of you wondering how it works. Check this out I sit in the corner of a dark room in front of the telly and with all the lights off it picks me up every single time and is 100 times quicker than typing your password. It will not work for anyone else who has tried in my house.
Alien Sense - In minimum lighting conditions M11x R3
I have mine set up to lock if it does not recognise my face and unlock upon my return. It will also autolock if someone else sits in front of the screen. You cannot do without this. -
Do you happen to have the M15x software with you? I just bought a M14x R2 and I would love to see if I can get this to work for me, but I can't download the software off dell's site anymore.

I just did this today on my R3 with current Dell drivers. Downloaded the latest M15X Command Center from dell by manually selecting the M15X from a list of hardware. Command Center version was A07 2.5.54.0 file name R272621.exe
The M11X R3 version of Command Center was version 2.8.8.0, A01-00 file name App_NT_AWCC_W7_X03_Setup_XTN7J_ZPE.exe
Followed Dolgon's directions and everything went off without a hitch...minus a few .net exceptions in between reboots. All is well after the M11X R3 version of CC was reinstalled on top. BTW, I did not see an option to repair or uninstall...the wizard automatically did a repair for me.
Good luck!
