    The 3dmark06 looks deceptively good until it's broken down into it's components:

    m11xR1, [email protected] OC, GT335M with 0.95V vbios
    3dmark06= 8182
    SM2.0=3785
    SM3.0=3863
    CPU=1814

    m11xR3, i7, 8gb ram, GT540m, bios overclock
    3dmark06= 9757 +19.3
    SM2.0=4401 +16.3%
    SM3.0=4055 +5.0%
    CPU=2717 +49.8%

    Conclusion

    The SM3.0 value which is a direct indicator of DX9 3D gpu gaming performance is only improved by 5%. Not much of a gain really. The 49.8% CPU gain will certainly show itself in any cpu bound games.

    That also shows 3DMark06 being very dependent on the CPU. A default run of the Resident Evil 5 benchmark or any other ingame time demo benchmark should clear this up.

    Um, the way I read that review, the only 0.1 FPS differences for machines with a 540M GPU were between an xps with an i5 dual core, and an acer quad core. It wasn't 0.1 difference every time between the quad core CPU and the m11x R3.

    Also, please remember the NBC review machine has the i7-2657M CPU that we don't have access to, and it had an SSD in it. This gives the results a nice boost, unless the test is purely GPU dependent.

    Anyway, back on topic - has anyone made progress with the voltage mod ... all 0.02V ?
    Can we crack 10k?

    I have the 1v VBIOS but it's untested and there are no testers popping up.

    Awesome DavyGT ... I'm still working out my quote and ordering details for my m11x since I do salary sacrifice at work. When I get my R3 I'm keen to play with the GPU.

    I'm still sad there's nothing to do with the CPU ... maybe it's time to tinker with the i7-840QM on my SXPS-16. Or I'll upgrade my desktop to sandy bridge, sounds like they're a lot of fun!

    Nice way to break it down. thats why i like seeing ppl post the individual scores.

    Something to add as well. there still may be a CPU bottleneck behind the R1score wich might explain why scores from a gpu clock of 550mhz arent much different from 600mhz (cant be sure till we break thru the 2.4ghz wall tho)

    it would seem the the 540 is not being held back by the CPU at all in the R3 (which is a good thing IMO since we may never be able to OC the CPU). a GPU volt mod may yeld nice results.

    seeing some of the newer desktop nvidia arcitcture hitting close to 1ghz core speed gives much hope!
