What is the DBC CE option in the system BIOS? Options are Enabled and Disabled, default of Disabled. Note in the BIOS says "This field enable/disables DBC and CE". Function is not in the user manual.

Called Alienware support. They say to keep it enabled. Its related to the hard drive, but the rep didn't know anything more than that. He said he'd keep email me if he can find some more information on it. According to him, his documentation says certain modern applications may crash if this option is disabled.

At least were getting somewhere. Also, its only an option on the r3 m11x.

Anyone have any ideas about this? I keep it enabled but it'd be nice to know what it is.

    Hey Guys,

On my M11xR3 there is a weird option in the BIOS called DBC CE and I have no idea what it does. My laptop shipped with it disabled and after I enabled it, all it did was make my screen become unreasonably bright and sharp.

But apart from that, what does this weird option do?

    From,
    Kaz.

All I know is that DBC means Device Bay Controller. I'm not sure about CE.

I'll tell you all what it is. It is dynamic brightness. You'll notice that with it enabled in BIOS, the entire screen will go dim when there is dark scenery displayed to simulate better contrast. With it disabled in BIOS, the brightness stays the same no matter what is being displayed onscreen whether it is a bright sunny day in a video game or a dark tunnel.

I'll ask our L3 for more information about it. Will post back once I have that.

actually, it might be the brightness. . I noticed the brightness changing dynamically since I enabled it, but only when it is running on battery and only on the built-in display. It doesn't change the contrast when on AC power and when connected to an external monitor.
