I just bought my M11x R3 2 weeks ago and it was delivered yesterday. First thing I notice is my left hinge creaking when opening it. Knowing that their was a large number of issues in the R1 and R2 series laptops just by looking at this board, should I be freaking out already? Should I get a little WD40 and spray it in there to see if it is just stops the noise first and not assume I am going to have the same hinge issue? Just being cautious and wanted to see what other owners have to say. Thanks.

Make sure you always open it from the middle and not from the left or right edge. Imo Wd40 is not a good idea , even if it would fix it ><. I would do RMA instead. I never noticed any noise on my R3 yet for the record

WD40 was a suggestion I read in a thread on here, not my ideal fix but was claimed to stop the noise. Maybe I am just being paranoid, but a $1000 investment breaking would suck royally. Otherwise I thought I'd go till it breaks (if it breaks) and then just get it replaced via warranty.

Edit: Just opened it up now after posting this on my desktop and I don't hear anything presently, but still am being cautious.

wd40 is a water based lubricant, so if you get it on you mobo, good bye computer. Plus it smells bad.

I would stay away from WD-40 for electronics. From what I have been researching you may want too back off the tension on the hinges some to see if that helps. I know both set of hinges I have for R1's they seem excessively tight from the factory. If you think you still need some kind of lubrication after loosing it up some I would use one of the below.

Powdered Graphite: Dry, but can get "everywhere" and won't want to come off easy, sticks too parts. Can be blown off.

Powdered GRAPHITE Lubricant / Six tubes | eBay

Dielectric Grease: used in automotive plug in connectors to keep water out, looks white, can conduct electrictiy. Stick to where you want it.

Sears: Online department store featuring appliances, tools, fitness equipment and more

Your laptop is only 2 weeks old, don't do anything to void your warranty. My suggestion is simply do nothing, if the screen breaks it will be fixed under warranty.

You can't get to the hinges without disassembling the screen, this is supplied as a one piece, hinges screen and everything in one package. Breaking this open is bound to void any warranty your fix could cause more problems than it solves.
