Hi, I recently started to OC my unit to squeeze all the power I can get from this fellow and I was curious how much people managed to get out of their 540M, for now I am stable at:
Core 830 MHz
Shader 1660 MHz
Mem 1080 MHz (maxed the cursor, how can I get beyond?)
using nvutil.
Is this any good?

That's pretty good. I went for a mild OC of 750\1500\950. Using MSI Afterburner, which is the best program.
-
what performance gains do you get for this OC ?
-
didn't bench, just played and could see benefits in fps games
I will bench this tonight stock and overclocked just for good measure -
You will need more voltage going to the gpu to get more speeds
not sure whether its a tweaked bios youll need or probably a program to unlock the voltage restrictors -
Ran some 3Dmark06 and got these scores:
1366x768
stock speed -> 8327
OC'ed -> 9861
1280x768
OC'ed -> 10'057
What are the resolutions people usually use to confront their scores?
In any case the benefit is obvious in the bench as in gaming -
I think its 1280x768.
Whatever the generic benchmark is. -
-
1280x1024.
Still those are pretty immpressive numbers, stock and OC'd.
Just keep an eye on temps for both the CPU and GPU.
And what max temps did you get on those clocks? -
Didn't really check on this, I'll check the temps after a hardcore gaming session, don't have the time before next week though, but from what I recall temps were below 75C
-
bouddha:
are you running a notebook cooler? -
I am not, was planning on building one for fun though.
My m11x only runs on the standard cooling system, no tweak or mod whatsoever. -
thnking about ocing mine but wonder if a cooler is worth the purchase, such as notepal u2...
playing deus ex: hr for ~1hr is about 68-71C on a flat surface with room temp being 22C...
so potentially ocing could spike it 4-5C for 5-10fps more? -
ill need to look into my laptop, as i go over 90C easy when flat on desk, it gets really hot really fast, if i keep it elevated its better, but still really hot. Hope them Chinese didn't forget some thermal paste, or imma go hunt some Indian heads to get me a fix ASAP.
Err can i dig to replace the thermal grease without voiding warranty? i doubt i can but still, i got some supposedly high grade cooler master goo, might as well use it. -
Yeah you can repaste all you want with no consequences.
Never heard of the cooler master goo, but I would go with a good quality thermal paste like ICD7 or Shin-Etsu X23. -
oC'ed the cpu and gpu some more and managed to get some more out of my rig
Core 833
Shader 1666
Mem 1090
1280x768
10186 pts
1330x768
9932pts
temp: 59°C
everything's rock solid and artifact free
Now I need to find a way to increase the gpu voltage if I want to go further, anyone knows how to unlock this? -
59°c? That´s... veeeery low for that kind of OC. I´m jumping to 70°C at stock speeds very quickly. As for thermal grease i recommend Arctic Cooling MX-2. It´s cheap, is just a few degrees below the top-notch pastes and - that´s the best - is the most user-friendly paste i know. Can be removed without troubles, too.
-
arctic cooling ftw.
anyways mine goes to high 700's only, 833sounds like a great OC... -
Eh, I'm new to OC'ing and i'm using MSI Afterburner. Any down sides to this and do I have to keep afterburner open?
-
-
Mkay Thanks! I'll try it out 10 mhz higher then benchmark it. Is that a good idea? And what should I benchmark with with?
-
Hey guys,
I decided to wipe my m11xr3 yesterday. Everything was going great until I installed MSI Afterburner. The only options I can adjust now is the Core Clock and Memory Clock. Can anyone tell me how to unlock the Shader portion? Thanks! -
On these cards the core and shader clocks need to coincide so MSI locks them together. -
Looks like my GPU is in need of some repasting.
740/1000/1480 is the most stable for me, any higher and I get texture glitches in games.
At that speed, temp maxes out at 80c~ playing demanding games like Crysis.
