I recently got my M11x with 4GB RAM and the faster processor and had a fast 128GB SDD installed in it. This was my first Alienware (not my first Dell though) and I absolutely love this laptop for what it does - very impressed.

My whole reason for the M11x was a compact laptop with the 1GB Video card and a decent processor to help with some graphics intensive and image editing software use - not so much for gaming. It was between the M11x and the Macbook pro and the M11x seemed to offer more of what I was looking for.

I am not very knowledgeable on the hardware end of things and need some opinions.

Is there a noticeable difference going from 4GB to 8GB ?

Should I be looking at installing 2x4GB sticks to upgrade the memory to 8GB.
Is it worthwhile to do so if I plan to use graphics intensive software on it or will 4Gb do the trick ?

In that case the 8GB will serve you well. My advice, use the 4GB for now and if it's not up to par then opt for the 8GB. You can see your usage by using the windows gadgets meter. when you are processing stuff and the RAM is maxed out, then it's probably time to get more. I wouldn't get 8GB just outright though. It's rather costly.
