At what settings would a m11x be able to run sc2 with i7, 4gb of ram, 500gb sataII 7,200 rpm and how much better would a m15x with i7, 4gb of ram, ATI 5730, 500gb sataII 7,200 rpm run it at? ANd one more question does alienware usually do any christmas specials?

the M15x should run it twice as fast since the Processor is far more powerful. the 5730 is also more powerful than the 335M. m11x runs SC2 on Medium. if you choose the 5850 on the M15x you should be able to run high-ultra settings. Alienware should have some deals during black Friday and cyber monday. You'll just have to look for them.

The m15x will with the 5850 or 460m will run it on ultra, the m11xr2 would most likely be high if dialed in right. There is a large difference in performance between the m15x's top gpu's and the 335m but not much between the 335m and 5730.

I have those same settings you listed for my M11x R2 and I play SC2. I tend to play a lot of 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4s and the best I can play on is medium to lowest settings. It still looks decent, in 3v3 and 4v4 battles the frame rates will drop somewhere in the 20's, which is still playable but just choppy.

My m11x with the settings that your talking about can play it on a high/ultra hybrid. Though I haven't tried online in larger battles my last 2v2 played smoothly the entire time. Haven't tried it since I installed throttlestop though so performance should be higher now.

Be aware that there is a pretty significant difference in what people consider "playable".

I can put my Alienware M11x on High / Ultra settings, and the game will technically run just fine. Framerates might drop down to 10fps when there is a lot of stuff going on. This might be absolutely fine for single player and low-ladder competitive play. But for high ladder competitive play, 10fps is absolutely unacceptable because it doesn't give you enough fine-grain control over your micro.

If you are high-ladder, then you'll want to run Starcraft 2 on your Alienware M11x on low, to maximize the framerates and get them as close as possible to 60fps. Smooth, responsive framerates are far more important than image quality.

I can vouch that the M11x R2 Core i7 edition can run Starcraft 2 on Ultra settings with +/-20 frames per second. I personally play on High settings, getting +/-40 frames per second for smoother gameplay (i.e. if 100 zerglings show up on my screen I have a buffer to loose some frame rates and still be able to play smoothly.)

Set Shaders, Shadows and Terrain on Med, and everything else on low. You'll be fine for 1v1 high competitive play getting around 15-20fps in big battles which is the minimum for good competitive play, but for 2v2 competitive play, you'll want to OC your m11x the highest it can go. I rarely play 3v3 or 4v4s, but I assume for competitive play, there will be some lag, but for casual play it will be fine.
