I use an U2311h, but I still want a better panel. I've only done a little looking here and there since I started, but nothing much comes up :(

The problem is that nobody wants to spend $1,000 to upgrade the screen on an Alienware M11x that costs $1,000 by itself. If they wanted to spend $2,000 on a laptop with a great screen, they would have just bought a Sony Vaio Z.

It's not really 1000usd... mroe like 300usd for the SonyZ 1600x900 panel. I cannot find any source for the 1080p panel...

Anyhow, it's too big to use in our m11x :p

Does anyone have any updates on their success with replacing the screen? I love my R2 but the screen really can be a bummer at times. Seems like the macbook air screens would be the best option but do we know for sure if they would even be compatible and/or a perfect fit in the M11X?

I really, REALLY hope that the M11x-R3 (if there is ever an R3 that isn't lamed out) will get a good screen option with a better CPU, and good hinges.

Fix that all that and everything is good with the M11x...

Well, I'm pretty happy with the innards of my R2 right now so I'm quite keen on the idea of swapping out the panel. Any luck anyone?

I suspect that part of the reason there are fewer options for the M11x compared to its larger cousins is that it keeps overall production costs lower. I'd certainly love to see the option for a better panel though.

Yes, I did see that one and it sparked my curiosity. I would really love to know what the viewing angle/brightness/black-levels on that panel might be compared to the stock panels we all have in our little beasties. The walk-throughs on opening up the M11X and getting to the screen don't seem too difficult. If I could be guaranteed a nice upgrade I'd go for it.

Did anyone have any luck finding a pin out for the M11x panel?

I was thinking of either having a custom ribbon made or a conversion block, need the pin out though.

I have a laser cutter cnc and loads of time. :)

So anyone can give me a Part number of known panel upgrade for M11X R3?
I would like to do the mod if someone already try and if it does'nt need too much fitting?

Buy a macbook air 11, salvage the lcd from it and sell off the rest of the macbook. Plug in screen, good to go.

The macbook screen is in the same family as the m11x sceen, its just the really nice version of it.

it is much better... m11x screen feels like those first LCD panels... though i am fine-ish with it, i can totally play games and such, though sometimes poor view angles annoy me, sometimes gotta adjust view angle up/down when playing some FPS, cause i simply can't see whats going on on the top half of the screen.

Hard to explain the difference, it is best to see for yourself...

It should yes, but they dont list what the part number is on that screen, or if its a OEM, or some aftermarket screen.

That lcd could very well be the cheap screen thats in the m11x already, but since it works in the macbook they sell it as a replacment for the mac.

Ebay is a good bet, but you might have to buy a whole macbook air 11.... they are about 7-800 used. But at least if it doesnt work out you can put the screen back in and resell it. Or you can sell off parts of the computer to pay for itself.

Screens on ebay range from 400 for borken ones to 600+ for working ones.

They dont really give you much info on that screen....

I guess it would come down to seeing a pin out of the screen and compairing it to the stock lcd. But my guess is that it will not work, or at least the thouch screen part wont due to the lack of a controller for it.

getting pinouts is a pain. Though fitting some random screen off of internet without seeing it ever... it would probably be some cheap china rip-off crap... had few replacement phone screens "non-oem", for way way less, trust me, you're better off sticking with the current one... its not 50$ for OEM one or 10$ for a non-oem one, the difference is a bit more, so you can imagine how crappy it must be.
