Hi there, just wondering if there is a way to stop the computer from automatically throttling the GPU when it gets too hot. It gets pretty annoying as I go from 60FPS to 15, to 60, to 15, to 60, etc.

The only thing that helps is to apply new thermal grease. The standard thermal grease is not of the best quality. Maybe consider also and underclock the cpu and gpu.

When you do apply some new paste, clean out the dust from the fan and vents as well.

I own several M11x's, and the rule of thumb with them is:

    - When gaming, elevate them slightly with thin book or something to get good airflow underneath, the rubber feet just don't give enough clearance

    - Unfortunately, plan on cleaning them out periodically; and as Papusan said new thermal grease can help as well as these units are getting on now after several years

    - You might consider putting a frame rate limit on of 30 fps if you don't want to open the unit, or you want to preserve component life. I run all my M11x's fps limited to 30 fps just to keep heat down, prolong their life and provide a more consistent frame rate

+1 to this, it's the best way to make sure it doesn't throttle.

I have to say that cleaning out the fan is even more key over time IMHO - M11x's get dirty like any laptop, you can fee the airflow not happening and tell by touch that they are heating and observe throttling. Grease is good but it's something you'll do maybe once or twice in the life of the product. On a routine basis (maybe every 6 months or so) plan on opening it up and cleaning out that fan and ducting. A lot of folks solved their heating issues with this step alone...

I knew one guy who did this every month... I'm not that disciplined
