    Hi Guys,

Is it possible to tell whether a motherboard has died due to water damage? Has it got any sensors like iphones do? I've got my friends m11x to repair and i think that it might have had a drink spilled on it by his 6 year old daughter. Its basically just not booting up anymore and there was an empty cup near the laptop when he found it!

    Any thoughts or advice? Thanks

Yes. The way to tell if a motherboard has suffered water damage is to look at it and see if there is a bunch of water near it.

Did you get the Advanced Protection warranty plan, or any kind of plan that covers accidental damage? If yes, then this kind of damage is covered by your warranty.

Otherwise, I assume that you are asking, because you are considering calling Alienware and getting a warranty replacement, and know that water damage is not covered. If that is the case, I wouldn't recommend deceiving Alienware and committing fraud. You're better off calling them, explaining the situation, and askign them for options.

Thanks for the advice. He doesn't have any accidental damage cover, just the standard warranty. I have just opened up the laptop though and cant find any liquid in it. I will give them a ring when their tech support is back online in Europe, they're doing fire safety checks at the moment so i cant get through to them.

Neat trick considering that the water already dried.
