ok so I went through a process to set up my usb drive to boot windows 7 so I could install it, I did everything word for word like the guide I found has, but when I boot the computer and choose to boot off the USB, the only thing that comes up is " BOOTMGR is missing" press ctrl+alt+del to restart. I can't do a fresh install and am at a standstill. How do i resolve this so I could boot from my usb and reinstall 7 on my new hard drive? :(

I had the same problem, tried to do win 7 from USB but it would not boot from the stick.

    Check the following:

    1) How did you format the USB stick. I used the HP USB formatting tool (quite big, some 60mb) to make it bootable and that worked for me.

    2) which guide are you following? You need to give us more details.

    3) stupid question but of course you selected USB as first boot?

I used the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool and the whole process worked great. A lot simpler than the guide you used. You do need an .iso of the install disk though.

if this is for your m11x just use alienware respawn (should already be installed)... and then go through the process of formatting and then installing the flash drive... and then of course load from usb FD.
