    Hi.

I have been browsing the internet, reading this site, and well... I've read alot during 1½ weeks.

Things I am not clear on. I get different impression all the time.

What is the laptop made of?

    Metal, plastic, both?

I mean the exterior, not what it is made of inside.

For instance, is the screen made out of metal and the base made out of plastic.
Does it differ beetween the models, lunar shadow and the black one. Does it differ beetween R1 and R2?

I've watced a youtube video where the reviewer says it's made out of metal, then a written review wehere it says plastic. I am confused.

Appreciate if someone have the time and effort to really make this as clear as it possible can get.

I do not know for certain what material it is made out of. There are some parts that are definitely plastic (palm rests, monitor bezel), and some parts that are probably metal (the laptop chassis). It is not uncommon for laptop manufacturers to use a blend of materials in different parts of the laptop like this.

More importantly, it is a VERY sturdy construction. If you pick it up, it feels very solid. There is basically no flex in any of the major sections (chassis or laptop screen). And believe me, I tried, just to test the sturdiness.

    Thanks.

They spoke of different parts of the computer in the end.

As I recon it is now. The material surrounding it, ie when I close the lid, there is metal. In bottom, top of the lid and the sides are out of metal. The inside as in when I open the lid it is made out of plastic and that includes the front.

I'm very pleased to hear that people say it is solid, that is one (amongst many) thing that are reoccuring.

I've been a pain in the to Dell this last week, ordering and canceling... :) I think I settled with the silver one and i5 otherwise it get to expensive and I'll overpay for my usage of it.

I don't know if I'd give it the "built like a tank" label, but it's very much a cut above your average notebook.

The plastics used are generally very durable and textured in such a way as to prevent discoloration like you'll see with some plastic finishes. I've done half a dozen tear downs on mine and the fit and trim is very good. The chassis is magnesium.

The only major weak point in build quality is the hinge. The LCD's plastic mount points for the hinge are [somewhat] prone to failure. The hinge is also design so that it sits a bit too low in the back which for some is causing the keys to contact the plastic screen.

I think the lower portion of the machine definitely feels very solid, almost tank-like :p

It really feels flimsy from the hinge up, I agree.

It's made of plastic and magnesium alloy.

    Good building quality except for the hinge, mine broke, and I'm not the only one.;
