    Hi,

I was seriously considering getting an M11X, but I had some questions regarding it's durability. Specifically, how vulnerable to damage would it be to a toddler pounding on the keys or grabbing at the screen.

I don't intend to let my toddler play with it as a habit, but she is fast, and devious, and some contact is inevitable. The 16 inch Asus my wife uses is fairly durable, and has survived several toddler manhandlings unscathed (if somewhat stickier) OTOH, the very thin and light Acer 4820TG I examined at Microcenter seemed far flimsier, and the threat of toddler destruction was a big factor in my skipping it.

How does the M11x stack up? :)

I would prefer to have a Toughbook in front of any child.
    And they are waterproof too!

    Good luck

Its going to stack up like any other system (in my opinion of course). A child "pounding on the keys or grabbing at the screen" is not good for any notebook.

If you are that concerned, when ordering be sure to consider the Advanced plan. See this link for full details on what is covered and what is not covered:

if it helps the m11x feels pretty solid to me, i can open/close the monitor by using a finger only on the screen part and not have to hold the keyboard/components part onto the desk to keep it there

It's feels sturdy (aka heavy). In any case, computers are just like any other merchandise you buy when it comes to quality; it's a hit or miss.

My 3 year old sometimes play with my M11x once in a while.

the M11x feels tough and is very durable. But you can also buy the complete care (which i did cause I have 3 kids) and not worry about it being dropped or liquid spill on the keyboard.

If you have a best buy near you, they should have an R1 on display you can touch. IMO it felt very durable compared to any other netbook I've used. One of my toddlers was able to pop off some keys and a piece of trim from my wifes acer, but seems near impossible by the looks of the m11x

Thanks all. The info really helps!

I was definitely leaning towards getting an advanced care plan.

I exposed mine to nuclear fallout and it now has an adamantium undercarriage and self-healing antiviral capabilities. I think it's part Borg now. (just kidding.) ;) lol seriously though, worst I ever did was drop it off the edge of my bed about a foot onto the carpet. It kind of bounced and got smudged, but that was it. I also had my Corgi dive bomb me with it on my lap but both my dog and laptop were fine.

Would Chuck Norris have an M11x?

See if you can get a keyboard protector, jam & rusks will kill the k/b
Fit a screen protector, that will give you piece of mind
Instil PC etiquette in your children, or you end up with teenagers destroying PCs. Don't treat it as just another toy.

I have a 16yr old daughter who has had a PC since day 1. I would definitely recommend early experiences and use an old PC for the task. Keep your PC for you, or loose it to the child you will.
My daughter gets the mini 311 when I get the M11x... Muhahahahaha!
