So i've read about some overclocking of the m11x's i7. This can be overclocked in the BIOS, not just through turboboost, right? I've seen some benchmarks for bad company 2 with the i7; It seems to show framerates between 30 and 55 fps on low settings and native resolution, am I right? The i7 starts at 1.2 ghz base frequency- after a BIOS overclock, how fast can this go? And how much of a fps improvement after overclocking could I expect from a game like Bad Company 2, which is known to be CPU dependant?

I think the absolute max overclock will be 1.5 Ghz base and then it can turbo boost higher.

You really should wait for more benchmarks, last I knew only one guy had benched BC2, you will get a better picture in a few days after more people have done it.

Someone ran the numbers. It comes out to low 2.4s IIRC. I'll go run the numbers again.

Edit: Stock Clock is 1200MHz, divide by 133 BCLK is a multiplier of 9. 9 * 166 = 1494 MHz Overclocked, No Turbo.
Multiplier hits 17 with Turbo Boost enabled, if your CPU is capable of reaching the 166MHz = 2822MHz on one core. I have to check the dual core turbo statistics to find the exact figure with overclock and turbo on two cores.

Does anyone know how this performance will compare to an i3 350m?

Probably gonna be roughly the same, that i3 is always clocked at about what the i7 will hit overclocked and turbo boosted.

In some instances that i3 will probably even be faster, since when you open a program that doesn't take the CPU to like 75+% the i7 won't turbo boost and so it will be running at 1.5 ghz while that i3 is always at 2.3 ghz.

I'm curious how it stacks up against an Intel Core i5 M 430

Again it will probably be about the same, with that i5 having the edge a good bit of the time since it is always clocked a lot higher. The i7 in the M11X can turbo boost up around that speed or a bit higher under different circumstances, but overall any non-ulv iX core processor is gonna be the same or faster than these ULV processors in the M11X.

Okay, Yoda, let's consider with a game- noting that the 350m is clocked at 2.266 ghz and an overclocked i7 is 1.4ghz which turboboosts to 2.8ish ghz ON ONE CORE. So what about in-game where both cores are used- how will the 350m stack up to the oc'd i7?

*Edit* Sorry about all the questions; I'm just trying to make my decision on whether or not I get this laptop and knowing the performance is pretty important. Thanks everyone for your help.

Well that was the whole point of my post, the 350M is always at 2.3 ghz.

The turbo boost is situational, and it never gets nearly that high in duel core mode, and it normally can't stay at that speed very long because of heat (turbo boost overclocks based on current heat levels and processor demand). I have yet to see anyone really test the max 640UM duel core turbo speed, but it won't be 2.8, in reality it will be lucky to get up past 2.3 on both cores and sustain that speed.

What all this means is realistically in most games that i3 will perform as fast or faster than the i7 ULV in the M11X. While the i7 may be faster in some programs the i3 is going to be better for overall performance since it is always clocked the same, and does not depend on a semi-random turbo boost to get it's performance.

Short version: The i3 will always perform the same (which is quite fast), where-as the i7 can fluctuate from much slower than the i3 to perhaps 5-10% faster.

i got my m11x r2 i7 and been playing around with bunch of games like BFBC2, Team fortress 2, GTA EFLC, Half life 2, Blur. I have been able to take the processor up to 154mhz and then at 160mhz it crashed but at 158 and 162 it is stable. I plan to take it higher but 166mhz crashed also so next is 164 and i will post up. My HD is bottlenecking lol rubberneckin (elvis  ), since it is a 5400rpm and 8mb cache lolz...the momentus should be here monday and take care of that issue 7200rpm 32mb cache, and 4gb nand flash
