I've had my m11x since release and it's given me nothing but grief. Called in repairs 4 times and had my unit completely replaced. Currently my m11x does not charge with a cable plugged in. I already tried a friends cable and battery but still no luck. It does not even charge when the battery is taken out which leads me to believe it is either a dc jack problem or the motherboard.

The weird thing is that while it is turned off the alienhead changes colors as if it is charging but it still doesn't charge. Also the keyboard and screen are noticeably brighter when plugged in.

I ran diagnostics. I tried holding the power button while it was unplugged for 10 or so seconds to try to reset the battery. None of it helped.

Does anyone have any ideas of something else I could try? If not do you think it's worth it to buy a new motherboard ($130) or dc jack? or should I just sell it for parts?

Thanks! any help at all would be appreciated.

Does it still power the system while plugged in? Just the battery charging doesn't work? Is charging enabled in the bios?

The charger does not show up as charging while plugged in. Charging is enabled in the bios. It seems that the cable does not power the computer or charge it Yet the keyboard is a little brighter while it is plugged in which means that the computer recognizes that there is something plugged in but is not charging or powering the system.

    Reflash bios?
edit anything in bios and save
    ???

I agree something may have broken

Sorry dont have any answers but if out of warranty you might try bypassing the jack with power direct to mb contacts (at your own risk of course)

I think I had the exact same problem as you did before and it has a quick fix but let me tell you the other symptoms I had which may further verify that it's the same problem.

For me, I had the exact same problem as you've listed however the one thing that I'm not sure if you've mentioned is if the windows battery charger showed that its charging for maybe like, 10-15 seconds and then change its status to "plugged in, not charging".

The quick fix I had for this was go into the BIOS screen and scroll over to the one that states how much watts the plug is and what kind of power adapter (65W or something) and then what you do there, is you unplug the power adapter at that screen and plug it in again. After that, I never had the problem arise again.

I personally think it has something to do with the motherboard or BIOS not registering or identifying the power adapter but once you go into that screen and re-verify it, it should be no problem.

I just tried what you suggested. No luck :( The bios screen does not show that there is any cable plugged in at all. Everything leads me to believe that it is some kind of hardware failure. The computer refuses to turn on with only the cable and no battery plugged in which is a sure sign that it is some kind of hardware problem. I don't really want to mess with installing a whole new motherboard and i'm not even sure that will fix the problem so I am probably going to sell it.
Thanks for all the help though you guys. If anyone else has any ideas let me know!

Try making a change in BIOS. Maybe even turning off batt charge...
    save
    turn off
    remove batt
press pwr button for a few
    install batt
put BIOS settings back + save

Above assumes you were unable to reflash. Its very unlikely to do anything but maybe get lucky. Most of the steps are ritual based - I forgot to add "wave the magic wand"

If MB is 130 that might solve your problem. If all else fails I would push in this direction. I haven't looked but just make sure the internal pwr supply is not a sep board.

If its a physical damage issue you might be able to bypass the power plug, but again, I haven't looked into that and it may not be worth it to you. Messy solution also.

As the vulture... or is that shark? I have to ask what this might sell for. PM me.

I can't find my portable usb drive so I can't reflash it. I think that i am just going to sell it. GNandGS, I can't pm yet because I just joined the forums even though I used to lurk a lot. I was thinking of selling it for $350. It has upgraded 8gigs ram, 640 GB hard drive. Other than that it's the standard m11x R1. If you are interested you can email me at [email protected].
