I have an alienware m11x r1 and I turned it off one day. Next day I turn it back on and powers up,but the screen won't turn on. The keyboard lights up put but screen is off. The alienware letters on the screen do light up but the alienware logo (alien head) doesn't. I think maybe it has something to do with the screen not properly connected because I have the the hinge problem. Maybe it got disconnected some way.

Do you guys know what I can do about it? Need help!

most likely damaged cables. haven't had the LCD fail on me once on a laptop, or of anyone i know... it is always the cable, worn from opening/closing etc.

was especially bad on my old eee, for camera/microphone, cables got busted in just a year of use.

still, since you got hinge issues, that would put a lot more stress on the cables. maybe they even got caught on some of the broken plastic etc.

This is most likely the case. Either the cable came loose or may have developed a short (needing replacement). I would tear it down and have a look as suggested.

I have this problem with my alienware m11x. Its quite annoying I turn it on many times and the screen doesn't come on. I also can't power it off by holding the power button. The power button is lit but the alienhead doesnt light up. Sometimes when I adjust the screen when the power is on the laptop instantly shuts off. I pulled up the screen to see what was happening and one of the cables was smack dab on the hinge and I could see copper wires splt and frayed from within the wire. It was clearly installed improperly. This has been a miserable experience for a premium priced laptop. Also many times I can't power on the laptop unless I take out the power cord. Right now I'm sitting in a cafe needing to do work and can't because I cant see my laptop screen and cant power it off. I also can't reset the battery because its screwed in. The frustration is built. Thanks alienware dell. I really don't think I'll be giving you my money in the future. This is an r3 m11x fully loaded. And worthless. I have a comptia A+

I am having this same issue. At first I got the 7 beep POST code for Bad CPU so i replaced the system board. Now I am getting no POST code but nothing on the LCD either. The keyboard lights, power button lights, Alienware logo lights but no joy. I have torn it apart and the LCD cable does not appear damaged......any thoughts on how to narrow down the issue?

Was there any need to dig up a thread from last year?
Does the caps lock light work when you press caps lock? If not the system isn't posting, if it does the system is posting and the fault is likely with the graphics chip or the screen/screen cable.

Not sure why the age of the thread matters....I saw a thread describing the issue I had so I thought I would ask for assistance. Did not mean to to violate some arcane forum etiquette.

Regardless, I have not heard the caps lock suggestion before, so thank you. I will try that when i get home.

So if the system is NOT posting then does the fault likely with the motherboard?

Also, if the system is posting and the LCD or video card is faulty would I not get a beep code corresponding to that?

The point is no matter how similar your issue is it is better to start a new thread with it than dig up an old one.

You may not get a beep code if the LCD is sending signals back to the motherboard then the board will assume it is ok even if it isn't outputting a picture, same with the video card if it is sending enough signals back to the board then it wont beep.

If the system isn't posting then the fault is with the board yes.

That's true, unless an old thread has the solution it's good to open a new one if the issue is not the exact same one.
