Hey guys I just got an M11x R1, and I believe it came with dell's Nvidia GFX driver [263.08] and I was able to switch gfx cards by pressing "Binary GFX".

But now, I reinstalled windows because I bought an SSD and installed official Nvidia drivers [270.61] and Im not able to change GFX cards anymore unless I disable "Switchable > Discrete" in the BIOS.

-Is this normal? [due to dell providing some kind of custom drivers?]
-Should I just keep discrete GFX on, if so how bad will battery life will be affected?

i came into the same situation, except i installed it on a upgraded harddrive. Just go to dell drivers and download the second driver listed for the graphics i believe and install that. It will be an older driver but u will be able to switch now.

    thats r2 drivers

    this is r1 drivers

Maybe install the driver when in discrete, then switch to switchable =D
    good luck :D

EDIT: nvidia drivers won't let you switch with fn+f6, you have to download the ones that dell supports on the link above, otherwise you need to be in discrete mode always, and well your battery will last less that's it.
