Alright, I have had this laptop for almost a year now, and since I got it it constantly freezes when running games. At first the only game I was playing on it was WoW, and it would only freeze if I was playing the game in fullscreen, but it has gotten a lot worse.

When it freezes the game just stops, I can move the mouse and hear the music and sounds from the game, but it just stops responding. I can SOMETIMES open up task manager and end the process, but it only works sometimes, and even though the games closes, the process remains and I cannot open the game until I hard restart my computer.

It has started happening with a lot of games, a list of some of them are:
    -Diablo 3
    -Fable: The Lost Chapters
    -Deus Ex: The Invisible War
    -Psychonauts
    -Eden Eternal

Other games I have work fine such as Starcraft 2, TERA online, and a bunch of other Steam games, but with a good chunk of them they just freeze.

I have been on the phone with Alienware/Dell support twice about this. They have had me reinstall windows, clear my computer, reinstall all drivers, update all drivers, check to see if I am overheating, and nothing has worked.

After going through all of this with them, they tell me they cannot do anything about it because "this problem is a Software issue, not a Hardware issue" ... They offered to put me on the line with a "gaming expert" to try and solve my problem, but that would cost me $120.

So, here I am, if there is anything left for me to do to try and fix this, or someone has found a solution, please let me know. I have just about had it with this thing.

It Still could be hardware problem what i would do is check to see if it's a bad ram. Try and remove one stick of ram and see if the problem still occurs. It also could be the harddrive too. Just try to work at it one at a time

I mean, I don't really know much about computers, so I'd rather not open up the laptop and screw around on the inside.

do you still have warranty? If you reformatted and the problem still occur it's probably not a software issue. Does it only happen when you play games?

I already did reformat it, they say this issue is not covered by my warranty. And yes, only while palying games

What kind of temps are you getting, it could be the CPU and GPU are throttling due to excessive heat build up.

It maybe time for some compressed air on the HSF and also look at fitting a cooling pad if not done so already.

    Regards.

Dell and myself both ran tests to see if it was overheating, and it seems there was no problems. And the games will freeze within a minute or two of it starting, could it even overheat that quickly?

iirc the R2's ran the hottest of all the M11x builds, and the CPU and GPU can easily get that hot in under 2 mins.

Try running prime or OCCT and GPU-z to stress out both the GPU and CPU, monitor the GPU temps with GPU-z and monitor the CPU temps with CoreTemp.

If either get upto >90 °C then heat is the culprit.

    Intel Core i7-640UM Max. Temperature 105 °C.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M. Again l think the max temp for th GT 335m is 105 °C.

Is your system idling at a high temps say the high 60 °C to 70 °C range?

This would again point to overheating due to a build up of dust etc inside.

    Regards.

Sapit - welcome to the forums.

Way back (2010?) this was common, especially in WoW. There were may debates to be had and things to try.. I even had my motherboard replaced.

Now assuming you are running up-to-date drivers etc.. What did seem to work for a few was under-clocking the GPU slightly.

If you think it is heat, give it a clean out and make sure the back is elevated (I sometimes use the power cord)

All this said I run mine well overclocked and it is quite stable, the GPU volt mod BIOS may have something to do with that.
