so I won a bid on eBay for a broken m11x it was listed as it wouldn't turn on. Took it apart and saw the power ribbon and fan ribbon unplugged. Plugged it all in and it turned on! But..when I boot ..the keyboard and mouse do not work. They only work in bios or if I press f2 or f12 on start up. (Usb mouse and keyboard work). Also sometimes it won't post and it makes 2 beeps and sometimes makes 5 beeps. But usually it hardly does that. I noticed it does the 2 beeps if I boot it with the charger connected. When I plug the charger in the blue ring on the cord lights up(weird). When I shut it down the alien head/power button stays lit and I can't turn it back on so I have to pull the battery and put it back in and then it allows me to boot. Anyone know what I can try to save this motherboard ? I do have a new i5 motherboard on the way but I would like to see if I can save this i3 one. I am also using 4gb m17x r1 ram(not sure if that can cause anything but Windows recognizes it ..same with bios.) thanks !

Also I have a wifi card installed in it but Windows doesn't recognize it..not sure if the motherboard is faulty .. Because I doubt wifi cards go out like that

It seems like it's a motherboard issue. I wouldn't put my hopes on saving it.

i stil have my m11x r2 on shelf, with broken panels, and failed mobo, I'm looking for R2 mobo and bottome base cover with panels on parts people website, it got thrashed in a bike accident, its not about reviving or throwing things @Alienware-L_Porras , it was a icon, it was like a feeling for me, small alienware laptop, memories.. so anyday i would spend some cash to buy parts for that. and revive it

I feel you brother. I often get attached to my laptops too. Wish I never sold some of them, especially my AW m9700. I won't ever get rid of my M15X for that reason.
