New to the site... just saw this in the April online e-catalog... Was wondering if anyone caught wind of this.

Open up the catalog to page 30 look at the M11x with the $1099 price and select "customize and buy". It will take you to the dell site where you can selet the over clocked processor. Thought that might be interesting to some people.

The 680 used to be a mythical beast until people started buying them, despite them not being on any website anywhere.

This is very confusing to me.

It was on several european Dell websites when this was reported here a few months ago (UK and Norway, if I remember correctly).

Why is it still using the same video card that Gen 1 has? I understand it's a usable video card, but isn't it getting a bit old? Surely there must be something better out there that doesn't have Optimus issues or the lack of power compared to the new mobile video cards that have come out in this entire time period?

According to the link it's still using GT 335M. Isn't that the same card that is in R1 and R2?

It is true I got the 680UM here in Norway. It is not on dell.no for some strange reason. Had it for one month!

Despite the GT335M's age, it's pretty powerful for this thermal envelope. Even the new GT540M is only expected to have a 10-15% boost in performance over its 1yr old sibling. Unfortunately, innovation in low-powered graphics card performance is historically not as dramatic than the more powerful desktop counterparts.

Oops typo. IIRC, silicon was announced in sept 09, and made available shortly thereafter. So it's about 1.5 yrs old.

Must have been more recent than when I looked. Even after the user that showed is WEI posted the picture, it wasn't on Alienware Norway.

In related news, I asked about upgrades or trade-ins. Apparently a third party handles "trade ins" for Dell, and being a recycler they offer rock bottom prices: an i7 m11x is worth a whole $58.
