Is there a reason why there's no volume indicator on the M11x? Even cheap netbooks have some kind of HUD-volume indicator...

I hope they have that in another osd release. It annoys me as well. The brightness, mute, wireless, and gpu switching HUDS all work.

I PMed the dell rep erawneila about it a few weeks back and he said that is how the software is set up. it's not a bug or an issue, it just doesn't exist in the OSD. I told him how frustrating I found it and pleaded with him that he forward feedback to engineering.

It's like that on the M15x and the M17x as well he said.

    Really lame.

Do you mean some kind of hardwired volume indicator?! I only ask as I have a taskbar volume indicator that works fine!

Think there could be a reason for that. The OSD display can mess up your game if playing in Full screen mode (or it did when I gamed on a desktop PC with an 8800GT). Is was as if the OSD was using the desktop resolution while the game could be on another resolution and caused issues.

    Ony guessing.

yeah a poorly coded OSD could interfere with your game, however I've never had issues with it.

In fact, my Asus G series would overlay the indicators in games, it was really slick.

I'm actually glad there's no indicator. I used the mute function while playing Dragon Age in order to answer a call (was at work, lol), and it kicked me to desktop. Game didn't crash though, just minimized. Might be annoying if your game minimized anytime you want to change the volume....

/Edit: On second thought, it's an alternative to alt-tab when the boss shows up.

There was a better, nice, and clean one summon posted on these boards before but I can't find it now.

We had a bit of an internal communication failure, but we found it today. I just signed off on the A04 BIOS and the A03 OSD software, both of which are required for on screen volume up/volume down display. They should be live on support.dell.com later today. Enjoy and sorry for the delay!

thanks that program worked great for me, plus huge added bonus of hotkeys so i can just use F8 and F9 directly to control the volume without the FN key.

This is resolved with A04 BIOS and the A03 OSD, both of which should be available on support.dell.com. You have to install both or it won't work.

I tried asking on another topic, but never received an answer: is there a way to change the amount the volume increases/decreases with the official OSD/BIOS? For example, it currently goes up/down 10% with every increase/decrease--I'd like to see it at 5%. Just nitpicking, but curious if it's possible.

actually it is possible go to the matt.malenski link above and download the 3RVX and you can make the settings so it changed in 5% increments just like you want. :]

    its pretty neat!

I see the A03 OSD on dell's support site but not the A04 BIOS. I'd prefer an official volume indicator rather than third party..

I have an R2, would it still be fine to install that bios as it says its for the R1. Also why do you hate it? Should I not install it?

I admit, I am FULLY underwhelmed by this update. It works...but I believe that the 10% increments messed with the older version. Also, the volume up and volume down looks kind of slapped together - they could have easily done a variant of the mute shortcut in appearance, yet they chose not to.

    Very disappointing.

you're right. it DOES looks ghetto. It's nice to have it, but you CAN TELL that it was a quickly-done MSPaint job.

The markers that indicate the volume level aren't even evenly spaced! ROFL

That, and the original version had the volume change in increments of 2%. This new one changes it by increments of 10%. I'll stick with the 2% without a display, than a ghetto display and 10% increments.

For the M11xR2, this is resolved with the A03 BIOS (should be posted later today or tomorrow) and the A04 version of the OSD (to be posted soon).

For the M11xR1, this is resolved with the A04 BIOS (or later) and the A03 version of the OSD.

Looks like engineering isn't going to release the new BIOS and OSD for the M11xR2 until Monday, so if you are waiting for this, look on Monday afternoon.

Sorry - further delays. The OSD release wasn't posted correctly to our internal file tool, so until they can resolve this, no external posting. I've asked them to try to expedite. Apologies...

Engineering moved quickly to get the updated OSD posted internally and I've just signed off on it, so it should be promoted externally soon. To get the volume up/volume down icons to work on M11xR2, you need to have the latest BIOS as well, which will be A03.

Not always, sometimes I like to adjust it before I turn on music, or press those keys to check my volume status, since I keep my volume icon off.
Thanks for your amazing comment though! Keep up the contribution to the community!

On a serious note, thank YOU erawneila!

I just wanted to point out that osd (including volume) is working.
    I'm using windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. I wouldn't think that would make a difference.
I did a clean reformat, installed command center and then osd.
