The R1 of m11x i realized that it doesn't come with optimus technology, yet the sales rep told me it did and has two gpus,
i am kind of confused, but in r1- do i have to manually change the gpu's on and off?
-
-
No the r1 does not have optimus.
Yes you have to turn the nvidia gpu on and off manually (by pressing fn+f6). -
so do you think i should always keep the geforce gpu on all the times?
Also is it safe to keep swapping? -
If you don't give a damn about battery life, you can switch it to discreet in bios and you will have 335m up all time
-
Okay, thx.
u know wut sux though lol, i live in Canada and that sale for the m11x r1 doesn't apply to me lol, so i had to pay freagin 1 gran for it at futureshop. -
You mean Dell Canada does not sell R1?
-
I got it from futureshop instead because i wanted the warranty from those guys which was cheaper about 150.
and it cost me nearly 1000, same price at dell.ca for the unit alone
the main problem was the shipping times when buying online, i have to wait nearly 15-20 days online whereas i wanted something faster, so i thought i can just pick it up from a retail local store instead lol. -
Manually switching is better and you have more control and power over it than having Optimus do it for you. Basically you just need to switch to nvidia graphics when you are about to play a demanding game or if you watch a certain video or movie where it is stutterin (ex: HD movies). A lot of R2 users actually sold their m11x to go back to R1 because of the manual switching/battery life, and lesser heat.

Woot thx man, now i feel much better!
except the fact i paid a gran when the exact same model was being sold to our fellow neighbors across the border for 599 lol =/
bummer -
Hehe, I paid around 1,120 shipped on my m11x r1 Lunar Shadow back in May and sold it and now i'm in the market for another m11x r1 and it's like 599 base configuration
-
Don't complain, I paid >1k... in sterling. =)
