So, recently my battery has gotten worse and worse. It will go from about 75-80% down to 6% in the matter of seconds. At first this only happened to me when I tried to play Skyrim on battery once and after that it's been happening a bit. Now it seems to happen every single time I use the battery, and even happen sooner now. I was trying to watch a TV show on my laptop this morning and before it even made it past the 3-4 minute intro to the show, the laptop was at 6% battery (from full, was using nvidia card).

Now, I know my batter is shot and there isn't too much I can do about that, but my question is do I do? I mean, I need a battery but is it worth 200 bucks for a battery for a laptop that I spent $450 on? I don't really have 200 dollars to just drop on a battery right now. Are there any third party solutions and cheaper batteries that will work and do the job?

A new battery doesn't cost $200. Mak sure you get a genuine Dell battery, the cheaper 3rd party batteries can be shoddy. Be wary of overseas sellers, they will list a battery as original and it's really a cheaply made fake.

I'd look at the bidding listing in the link below:

Really nothing you can do. Dell is always the safest way to get a battery that's not a dud.

A new AW battery is $150. Accessories | Dell

I recommend getting a one-year warranty for $200, then asking for a battery. That way you get your battery and you're covered for any other problems. Sorry, there aren't many options aside from bidding, and that isn't always a sure shot.

Don't listen to the above poster, eBay is perfectly safe. Especially since that eBay seller has lots of good feedback. It's definitely a good option if you don't want to spend too much.

Well that's rude, there's something called being open towards others' suggestions. I was just giving out my opinion that in the long-run, a warranty would be better for the laptop.

I'm sometimes hesitant to go eBay when something's used, regardless of the price or credibility of the seller. I'd give pause if the seller says the battery has 10% wear. It could mean nothing or everything in the near-future and finding out's not fun.

Also would like to point out that other repairs cost more when out of warranty.

Personally I'd save up for a bit and spend a little more later to protect my investment. Just my 2 cents because I like having some peace of mind about my machine.

    1. Lunatics asked for, and I quote, "Are there any third party solutions and cheaper batteries that will work and do the job?" Obviously, $200 is probably a little more than he wanted to spend.

    2. Battery wear is normal. All batteries have it to some degree. 10% wear isn't much, and at the price it will go for, that's a steal.

I just don't see anything wrong with recommending another alternative. He has a laptop so he's not destitute and could probably put some savings together if he waited a bit.

I don't think it's right to outright reject someone's suggestion when it's not impossible and very sensible in the long-run. If he really wanted the eBay battery, he'd have made a bid without you saying "Don't listen to this guy." Just saying.

    Let's stay civil, folks.
If you disagree with a poster's opinion(s), simply counter it with one of your own in a respectful manner.

Moving forward, Lunatics, can you download CPUID HwMonitor or HwInfo?

With your battery in the system take a look at your battery wear level and post hear the percentage.
