Now up at the dell support site.

Thanks to erawneila for chasing this up and getting them posted.

Good to see the R1 still getting some love :)

So which driver should we be downloading? Nvidias or Dells? Or both? If both a description how to would be great! :)

Also for people downloading this, updates on how well the driver works are GREATLY apperciated! :)

That is what the discussion thread is for ;) Since you have an R2, you want the other one I posted - this is for the R1 which does not support Optimus.

As to NV vs Dell - that is your call ;)

Good point - pay close attention when you are downloading new drivers. While some items are shared between the M11x and the M11xR2, several are not. Loading the incorrect driver on your system could require a reinstall to fix. Look twice before you download and load the driver...

Tested this driver with Crysis WH, Batman and 3dmark 06.

Crysis WH seemed to be running 1-2 fps faster.
Batman AA and 3dmark gave me pretty much what the beta drivers were giving me.

No problems so far though. All seems to be well.

Brilliant, will give it a whirl in an hour or two.

Do I just uninstall the Nvidia driver, or is there an intel one I ought to remove also?

Just install per the instructions on the site. I'd recommend switching to the NVidia GPU before executing the install.

Drivers simply seem to be an "official" re-packaged version of the beta drivers - slight overall performance improvement - but not really noticeable (i.e. 1-2 FPS as noted above with Crysis Benchies, slightly better score with Final Fantasy Benchmark - haven't run 3dMark yet..)

Intel graphics are, unfortunately, still not updated with the latest versions available via the intel site - which would be nice as there's some noticeable improvements with the Intel drivers (especially noted on my 11z). However, the drivers are solid and perform adequately - so I can't complain too much.. :)

I will add - however - (though still confirming) - that the fan issue appears to be, at least in part, rectified with this update. I've just switched to NVidia - run a few benchmarks - then switched back to Intel - and, as expected - the fan continued to run.

However, a surprise happened - once the unit cooled down a bit - the fan actually *switched* off.. instead of continually running like it did before..

It's now simply going on/off every few moments - so it's not fully cooled down yet - though, I must say - it is a difference from before - in that, at least, the unit appears to be attempting to shut off the fan once the temp has successfully come down via the fan. I'm still using BIOS A01 BTW....

One other note is that you now have the capability to swap between IGFX and NVidia GPU via the taskbar now (i.e. you don't need to use the FN+F6). Can't remember if that was in the beta or not...

I'll update further if, in fact, the fan actually behaves as expected/should.

Is the nVidia GPU actually turning off now, or do you still have to go into standby mode first?

well - it's still showing up in device manager if that's what you mean (when I'm switched back to IGFX).

I'm still playing around with it - at best so far - it appears (at least on my unit) - that the fan, once on for a bit - and once cooled down - the speed toggles down a bit. Also - in IGFX - it actually has physically turned off/on - whereas before - It wouldn't ever turn off once switched from NVidia -> IGFX (at least until I put it to sleep).

I've just ran 3DMark06 (same range of results BTW 6400-6500 as before) - and I'm now letting the unit cool down a bit with NVidia - and swapping back to IGFX to see if it'll turn off eventually.

Not sure though - may have spoke a bit too soon.. :)

well - it's still showing up in device manager if that's what you mean

Already discussed. Wait for 15 min and it will go off. In first, 188 driver there was option on how fast should nvidia go off, now it disappeared and timeout is 15 min.

Is the nVidia GPU actually turning off now, or do you still have to go into standby mode first?

The was no necessity in this. You should read forum more careful.

Thing is, I have a different notebook, but it can use the same drivers. I prefer to go into standby as after that, it will go on and then off immediately after switching.

That's really weird cause I’ve got 15min time out. So I’m on nvidia, then i switch to intel, see nvidia in device manager for 15 min and then it disappears...

A01-A04 BIOS have no differences in fan speeds. They all can get a stuck fan that requires a restart though...

I noticed when I switch to the nvidia, both gpus show up in device manager. Can't remember if its supposed to be like that. I know on the intel gpu, only its supposed to be listed.

It might be just me, but does anyone else notice their laptop running 3-4 degrees celcius hotter after this update?

Firstly, a BIG thank you to erawneila(Brian) and his team for their continued support for the M11xR1 and for active participation in this forum.

    Installed Dell NVIDIA 197.72 driver.

    All good thus far.

I just installed the new driver over the existing Dell nVidia beta driver without any fancy uninstall or driver clean.

    M11xR1 SU7300 4GB RAM over-clocked with discrete nVidia enabled.

    3DMark Score: 6507 3DMarks
    SM 2.0 Score: 3014
    SM 3.0 Score: 3021
    CPU Score: 1463

This is up slightly on my previous runs. However these tests have a fudge factor.

    @virtuehero
With discrete nVidia enabled, I disabled discrete nVidia and returned to Integrated GPU.
I then checked the Device Manager and noted that the NVIDIA adapter remained listed.
After approx. 10 minutes the NVIDIA adapter was removed from the Device Manager listing.
    I'm currently using BIOS A01

I have no problem with overheating on my M11xR1.
As far as the fan goes, it comes on and off every now and then and doesn't seem to be on much when discrete mode is disabled.
CPU temperature tends to hover at around 37C most of the time.
    Probably more when gaming.
Fan seems to engage when temperate reaches 40C.
After disabling discrete GPU mode the fan hardly ever comes on.
The fan consistently _on_ doesn't seem to happen on my M11xR1 when backing off to integrated GPU.
New Zealand outdoor temp. is currently 9C (winter).

Waiting and looking forward to BIOS A05 :D

Sorry for bumping, but I'm curious, for people who are using this driver, what is your 3dmark06 score now?

The reason I ask this is because before I installed this driver, my 3dmark06 score was about 5800 with stock CPU/GPU speeds. However, after I installed this driver, my 3dmark06 score plummeted to 4000. Even after I reinstalled the driver multiple times the score remained at the 4000 level. Finally, I did a system restore to revert the driver back to version 188.55 and my 3dmark score shot back up to around 5800.

Just ran 3dmark 06 under latest Dell non beta 197.72. Scored 6,423 with OC CPU.

Apart from a funky install that ended with a black screen (ok on reboot) these drivers have been fine so far.

    3DMark06 Before nVidia driver update
    3DMark Score: 6285 3DMarks
    SM 2.0 Score: 2843
    SM 3.0 Score: 2921
    CPU Score: 1459
After nVidia driver update to 197.72

    SM 2.0 Score: 3014
    SM 3.0 Score: 3021
    CPU Score: 1463

3DMark06 is an indicator of system performance at best.
