My clocks are Swiss made.![]()
I do get a small amount of artifacts at these clock rates when running 3DMark06. More so when I use 900Mhz and above.![]()
I'd NEVER use these clock rates for anything other than testing.
My 'I'm all-right jack' clock rates are 540/1296/850 which are used for playing my game(1) and anything else that benefits from a good mid-range GPU.
It's a good question though, as I'm gob smacked when I read M11x owners state that, 'my M11x GPU keeps failing or is really slow'. And then you find out they have a GPU memory clock of 948Mhz!!!!!¹ This just resets to base clock rates the moment they engage it. Plonkers!!!!
As an aside, I have no problems switching back and forward between Nvidia and Intel using Nvidia 263.08. Just for the record.
¹ - Maybe two people in the world who have a memory clock that can maintain 940Mhz on an M11x with GT335M.

Oh yes, yes, yes, yes, yes! Please bring 2560x1600 support to the Alienware M11x! I've had to sacrifice Intel HD graphics (ie battery life) to run NVIDIA's latest drivers in order to run 2560x1600 on my Dell U3011.
I'm downloading now. Please work. -
UPDATE: Re-running the driver install, choosing to do another clean install, fixed the switchable graphics problem. Still no 2560x1600 support, I'm afraid. -
¹ - 2560x1600 is the max. resolution of the digital ports (HDMI/DisplayPort)
The max. resolution of the VGA port is 2048x1536. -
What does Device Manager look like? Try reinstall the driver again, but you're going to have to have the nVidia graphics enabled to do that.
Try uninstall nVidia graphics from Programs in Control Panel, and restart. Then, go to Device Manager and check Display Adapters.
Hopefully you have two listings of Standard VGA. If you get the Intel WDDM driver, right-click and click uninstall and tick "Delete the driver software for this device." If that is not available, right-click, Update, Browse, Let me pick, and select Standard VGA.
Restart if asked and then try install the driver. -
-
I installed the same driver a second time, once again choosing a clean install, and I am now able to use switchable graphics. Hooray.
However, Dell's driver still sets my maximum resolution to 2048x1536 for my Display Port connected U3011. While running standard NVIDIA drivers, the 2560x1600 option was available. I even reinstalled the OS using the recovery DVD while using the last drivers and I still experienced the same problem. No 2560x1600 support.Dell's driver for the U3011 is installed... and working when I'm using any NVIDIA-provided graphics driver. The incompatibility is only experienced when using Dell's hybrid drivers.
I cannot even create a custom resolution using NVIDIA's Control Panel:

Having some problems with this driver.
I tried to install it the other night with the 335 card running, it said this driver does not work with your version of windows. So I switched the intel card and it installed. Everything worked fine, fn f6 switch worked great, even after I restarted a few times. Last night when I turned on the computer it was on the intel card, so I tried to switch it with f6, nothing happened... so I looked in the device manager and it lists the 335, but no way to switch it. So I uninstalled and reinstalled it all. It would switch now, but when I entered games it made the resolution 800x600I reinstalled again, still no work. So I did a system restor to before I installed the drivers and now it works.
So I am running the old driver because the new one wont install right.
Any tips? -
-
I tried it that way the 2nd and 3rd times with it not working. I am going to give it another shot tonight after work.
-
I downloaded the latest NVIDIA driver beta (Verde 267.24), installed with clean option, and the NVIDIA graphics were running the laptop's screen at 800x600. I couldn't take it higher than 1024x768.
I re-ran Dell's newly released driver, for the THIRD time, with the clean install option selected. This time: Bam, 2560x1600!
Woohoo! -
You had me looking through Dell driver configs trying to find screen size 'filiters'. Didn't find any.
The Nvidia GT 335M specs do say the digital ports support 2560x1600. (VGA is lower)
And I thought it a bit hardcore if DELL physically coded in filters to reduce this.
I do my 'clean' install in safe mode (F8 at boot) that way any Nvidia drivers are genrally going to be released and not locked.
Then, as prompted I restart the notebook and continue the install in 'normal' mode.
I've NEVER had a problem installing/re-installing known working Nvidia hybrid driver sets, and I've installed a few of them.
And before I start all this, I create a restore point.
How to suck eggs with Dr Goodvibes. -
And then I restarted my computer and 2560x1600 disappeared. Mutliple restarts haven't brought it back. Back to 2048x1536. Wait, no. Back to nvidia drivers. Bye-bye battery life. /drama

What happans?
Some of the docking stations at higher screen sizes need to be on to allow configuration when the notebook is powered on.
I have a couple of U2410 and 1920x1200 is the max screen size available at the desktop. So the screen size would seem more dynamic based on what you're connecting to than an static set of screen sizes.
And Device Manager -> monitors does see the monitor as a U3011?
My U2410 shows up as a U2410. U3011 monitors drivers up to date? -
Thank you for the tip. It was very close to the solution.
I have to wait until after I have logged into Windows to connect the U3011. Any earlier and I get that 2048 crap. Also, the NVIDIA driver helper crashes occassionally when the U3011 is connected... I don't believe that adversely affects anything else.
I have duplicated the error and the solution three times, so I am confident connecting the external monitor AFTER logging into to Windows is my solution. What a pain in the butt. I won't be buying another Alienware that uses anything but drivers made by NVIDIA. -
For anyone who is wondering, flash acceleration is still broken on intel - I guess that's to be expected since it's the same driver. Flash 10.2 is especially broken on intel - you can't even switch to full screen in youtube videos without it hanging.
-
Anybody else getting OpenCL, CUDA and PhysX as reported in GPU-z for the nVidia GPU untick themselves after hibernation/standby or switching?
Also, I can't seem to use extended desktop with a monitor connected via VGA when using the nVidia GPU (I can use them separately but if I click extend it automatically snaps to 'Show desktop only on 2').
Extend works without issue when using the Intel GPU. I haven't tried connecting a HDMI monitor. -
Flash 10.3 Beta.
One could always try the beta version.
Minimum Graphics Driver versions
As stated many times, most web browser suppliers are urging people to upgrade their Graphics drivers
The following is the minimum suggested versions
Nvidia: 257.21
AMD: 10.6

@namaiki - Will check it out and see what happens. Not close to my U2410 multi-port monitors at the moment. -
I have the same issue with OpenCL, CUDA and PhysX unticking in GPU-Z after switching back to discrete from integrated. PhysX options in NVidia Control Panel dissapeared as well.

U2410 Monitor(s). HDMI, DVI, VGA, DisplayPort, Composite and Component all on one monitor so not hard to test.
Intel GMA mode.
Didn't do anything flash, just plugged in the VGA cable and then extended the screen with a Windows+P. Seems to work using the Screen resolution panel too.
Nivida mode.
Again nothing flash, just plugged in the VGA cable and then extended the screen with a Windows+P. Seems to work using the Screen resolution panel too.
I didn't adjust any screen sizes or anything, just powered up, switch to Nvidia, plugged in the VGA cable and then Windows+P to extend.
By default it seems to mirror the screen.
The Monitor I'm using has a 1920x1200 res and tends to take whatever is thrown at it.

The HDMI and DisplayPort are not available in Intel GMA mode as I have observed. It's only the VGA port that is available in Intel GMA mode.

Well , are thoses drivers worth install ?
I mean , every games works without a crash , i can easy switch from nvidia to Intel GMA with On screen display ..
Why bother installing thoses drivers if you get so many problems with youtube on 1080 , crashes , random install ( what the dell , which program have to install three times with finger crossed to work well ? ) ?
The only thing that could make me change is better battery life , and more FPS in WOW and SCII ( i forgot about playing TF2 on my R1 , it's just impossible where L4D looks ok , it seem that source engine is not meant to be play on the M11X ) -
-
If you're still on the old DELL Nvidia 172.nn version it may be a good reason to upgrade. -
in other games where the Gfx card is the bottleneck you might notice some improvements
for some extra source engine performance, the good old PINMOD helps a lot. -
-
L4D and l4d2 runs pretty good , but team fortress looks awefull ... to have decent FPS , i have to use a non-native resolution with everything on low ...

I keep having this issue with these drivers where sometimes after I turn my computer off with the intel graphics activated, when I turn it back on, sometimes the nVidia card will not work, ie I can't switch to it, the system tray icon doesn't appear. In the device manager, it says that "This device is not working properly." Sometimes it will resolve itself on a reboot. I tried reinstalling the drivers doing a clean install in safe mode but it didn't fix it. Has anyone else had this problem?
EDIT: Also, in the device manager it says that "Windows could not load the drivers for this device." -
Sorry if anyone has answered this already, but when I boot into Windows, I don't see the nVidia hybrid sign in the taskbar tray. Pressing FN+F6 does nothing. I go into the Device Manager and it says "Windows cannot load the drivers". I have solved this once by reinstalling the Hybrid drivers. But I am not happy having to do that every time.
-
I've used over five different Nvidia Hybrid driver sets (including the current DELL one) over the last year and never had any problems other than driver features and version levels. -
DrGoodvibes, add me to your list! Because I have the same problem, ran the driver for a few days and then boom today, I turned on the notebook and couldn't switch back to the 335M. I didn't do a clean install as such, instead I did the custom install which included the clean install function. For now will reinstall like AlienOnions has...
-
I noticed improvments in WOW and can now run Ultra on every setting. before I could not run water on ultra just fair.. it said to update graphics card .. so the first thing I checked was this and indeed can run on ultra now..
-
I didn't read the whole thread,
My issue is that i can no longer fn+f6 graphics swap with this driver. -
-
Anyone have issues with BSOD with this driver? I keep getting multiple BSOD's through out the day and WhoCrashed points to Nvidia Kernal Mode Driver.
-
I've been running it for a few days now with no issues. Previously I was on the stock 197 driver. I didn't do a custom or "clean" install; just the basic.
-
I have done Clean installs of it and always have had BSOD problems with it. Went back to the 197.72 driver to see if I have problems with that one also or not.
-
-
-
Guys, there's no need to uninstall previous drivers before installing this one.. The installer specifically mention this.
Mine works perfectly.. This driver fixed an issue I previously had with switching between cards. -
Had Nvidia 263.08/Intel 1994 running for a week without any issues.
No BSOD. Just good clean fun.
My 3DMark06 tests using Nvidia 263.08 did not indicate any boost in this one area of performance indication.
Now installed Nvidia 260.63/Intel 2020 as this gives me native browser GPU acceleration in IE9.0 where the Intel GMA version 1994 didn't.
Chrome 11.0 and Firefox 4.0 also allows for browser GPU acceleration when Intel GMA version 2020 or 1994 is used. Firefox 4.0 has to have browser GPU acceleration forced with Intel GMA as the version is to old, but it does still work.
Opera 11.50 does not support browser GPU acceleration in Intel GMA version 2020, but does work OK using Nvidia GPU.
Mozilla suggests Intel GMA version 8.15.10.2202 or newer will support browser GPU acceleration without having to force it. This may also allow for Opera browser GPU acceleration support too, however that is not listed anywhere I know of and still may not support the require WebGL, OpenGL 2.1 it's looking for.

Been having a few issues after around a week running the 263.08 driver from Dell including laptop occasionally not going into standby when the lid is closed, Nvidia GPU occasionally not switching off while on integrated mode even after 20-30 mins as well as occasional BSOD after waking up from standby.
I have been using the modded 258.96 hybrid drivers before and I've never run into all these issues I just mentioned, but now I have all these issues after switching to the official drivers so I'm quite puzzled by this. -
To those who have problems switching back and forth using Fn+F6. I noticed that the problem only occurs when I have my power profile as balanced. Whenever I switch it back to performance, the graphics mode arrows in the task bar pop back all of a sudden and I can switch back. I don't know why but this seems to be the case for me.
-
So I installed this driver 6 times tonight. I now can switch back and forth but all it does it say it switched... the intel card is always on, i dont have my 335 anymore
-
The Intel GPU is always enabled.
Does the nVIDIA GPU never appear in Device Manager? -
Nvidia is in the device manager, it says its working, but when I f6 it goes to high perf mode..... but still uses the intel card for everything. So all my games go down to 800x600 and run like crap....
Dell also took down the old driver so I cant install a fresh copy of the old ones to fix this. I can do a recovery and get my old drivers back, but now I get random frame drops like I have a really high ping (actual ping is 30-40)
I have a new hard drive on the way now, so when I do a fresh OS install I am going to try it again. -
What do you score for 3DMark06 when the nVIDIA card is supposedly running?
Also, here's a link to the previous driver. -
I dont have any benchmarking software. I will download some tonight when I get home and see what I run.
Thanks for the link.
