    Just got my m11xR1 yesterday.
Call me idiot or wut, I'm aware of the hinge issue but I still buy it :/

Anyway, problem right out the box lol.
Press power button, the screen is adjusting the monitor brightness automatically up and down up and down, it never stops until I manually turn the brightness using FN+F4 to maximize the screen brightness.

    Any idea? >.>

    EDIT:-
Okay um, restarted it several times, the automatic dimming went away but now the brightness stays maximized lol, even if I manually tone it down using the FN+F5, the brightness remains the same even though the brightness bar is empty >.>

    EDIT2:-
Several more messing with the system, I found that when I click on the Graphics mode on the task bar and select save power, the brightness issue go away completely and adjusting the brightness is working like it should, but when I switch it to performance, the auto dimming comes back again, what do - -

    EDIT3:-
forcing the system to run with discrete graphic in BIOS fixed the problem. But, not really a solution is it...

Anyway I'd say it's a really great looking and sleek machine, I can now understand all the m11x owner's rage lol.
Now I just hope I'm one of the minority that has no Hinge issue..

I am almost certain this is a conflict between AlienFusion (a component of Command Center) and the Intel Display Driver. Uninstalling Command Center will correct it but you lose AlienFX control. You can also disable the fusion service which may prevent the issue.

    Try this:
Open up Command Center, go to the Fusion portion and then on the main screen, reset to defaults.

On battery this (dimming issue) happens, on AC it does not.

Disabling the AlienFusion service is actually a great thing to do in any case. It's not necessary and has some serious problems with panel dimming and other power options. Disable it and just use Win7's already working power management.

How do I disable the AlienFusion? o_O
I actually went and restore the whole windows and same thing happens - -

I stopped the alienfusion using "Service" but its still flickering :/
Again, this only happens when I'm on High performance mode.
When I switch to power saving, the problem went away.
197.72 driver btw if that means anything to my problem..

Also this happens regardless of AC adapter being used or not, it just happens.

    EDIT:-
Uninstalled Alienware Command Center, problem not solved.
This leads me to think its the driver that is the main culprit..But the driver 192.72 is from Dell Support site..
What could be the problem :(

You disable AlienFusion by going to Windows Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services. Find the "Alienware Fusion" service in the list. Double-click on it, change the startup type to "Disabled". If the "Stop" button under Service Status is highlighted, you will want to hit that.

AlienFusion has been known to cause conflicts with screen dimming and screen brightness on the Alienware M11x running Windows 7. They completely go away once you disable AlienFusion.

Try resetting high performance power plan to its default settings. If the problem still persists then look at the power settings in the Intel driver. Try resetting those to defaults.

Which profile? Win7's? or Alien Fusion?

Win7's. Once you've disabled AlienFusion you're never going to use it to manage your power plans again.

    Did that too...Same thing :/
Only way I can have a working brightness when using 335m is when I switch to discreet in bios - -
Or simply just set the brightness to maximum which is not desirable in certain situation..

Did you try what I suggested in post#2?

I had the same issue you describe and am on the same NV driver. Fixed for me.

When I am in front of the 11x, I will post back intel settings - not sure if I changed anything on that side.

BTW, I have my power profile set to balanced.

Maybe you can elaborate more on the restore default in the fusion? Don't quite get it..

I think I have a solution to the auto dim problem which appears during the reboot of the notebook. Simply go to AlienFusion and set the Dim brightness to 60 (in my case) the problem should be solved.
