Sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm also familiar with issues experienced with the M1330; I'm on my third GPU unfortunately. Very irritating.

Are you running the machine in overclock mode? When the system restarts does it state that it has just recovered from a serious error? Did the technical support guy suggest replacement or is he going to do any further diagnosis?

XPS-- the machine reboots with or without O/C it does not state that it recovered from a serious error no. It also rebooted as I was entering safe mode which I intended to unistall the vid card drivers, and also while I surfed.
The funny thing was that the unit was working well it just acted up as the day progressed this happen after using the unit roughly 8 hrs.

Well regarding the diagnosis ill just say this the guy mentioned that the system cannot be used with the dedicated Nvidia card unless it was plug in, and that the integrated card was the only available grf when in battery mode once I heard that I tried to end the call as soon as possible.

There are parts shortages and they could not give me an accurate time frame with regards to the replacement.

I requested a refund. It kinda sux cause I do like the unit nice build, great keyboard, and the portability but I just dont feel like wasting another day or willing to take the risk at this time.

Also I use the stack coupons so I was out the door tax and all at 816.00 pretty loaded.

if I was paying full price I wouldn't mind going for a refund, but with stacked coupons and such, with such a unique computer and me wanting all it has to offer, I would personally wait for a replacment if at all possible. But then again, I'm not having major issues so it's hard to really say :)

figured I could post this here. After receiving no help from Dell, I called the 1800alienware number and they sent in the request for my custom nameplate to be replaced since it was cut short. It was 19characters with spaces but they said 23characters w/ spaces should work. I dunno, so I just made a different engraving and it should be out to me in a couple days, no problems!

aznguyen316 I would love to keep it obviously, and stacking coupons was great on the wallet. I just dont know if I can wait for another system for another month thats all I will have to consider my options.

I know someone else has mentioned it, and now I am noticing that I am having the same problem.

The lights on the front right side are dimmer than the lights on the front left side speaker.

Why are you getting a mobo replaced?

I wonder, if they replace the mobo, will does that replace the cpu and gpu as well, seeing that they are soldered on the board?

Likewise. I'm wondering if that's just part of the design.

Edit: Nevermind, it just looked strange because of the color I was using. The LEDs are definitely all working.

    Thanks for the reply.

After I did not have success with the OEM firmware i installed DD-WRT, but the problem was still present. After more trouble shooting the solution ended up being to turn NTP client off. Very strange.

getting mobo replaced cuz the laptop no longer boots up. used it for a total of 2 hours or so and the thing shut off and wont boot up on battery or ac power. Dell said the mobo was dead and shipped over a new one. just waiting for the tech guy to pick it up and call me to make an appt to fix.

Only one other person here has mentioned anything about bluetooth, but I have an issue where it seems to randomly lose the BT module. This has nothing to do with enable/disabling the wireless. I have a pair of BT headphones and today while gaming the BT randomly dropped, and as usual it was gone from the device manager and no amount of toggling wireless would bring it back.. Usually, I can get it back showing up on a reboot.

    Anyone else?

Iwanted to follow up here with regards to my system since I finally figure out why my system was rebooting.
Unusual to say the least, it appears that every time I type on the keyboard is the cause seriously of all things that it could have been.
The reason I didn’t catch it earlier was pretty simple I didn’t really spend too much time using the actual keyboard itself but the logi vx mouse.

I spent the better time of the day installing a fresh copy of Win 7 Ultimate I had, and office 2007 and patching. I also was loading games on Steam etc. while I gamed on my crossfire 5870 desktop.
Anyways I called and they are picking it up tomorrow, going to call and see if they can get me a system sooner than later. I really had grown to like it.

Came across something that could be potentially beneficial to others.

By default the DW1520 Wireless card's feature "Minimum Power Consumption" is set to Enabled. Now while you more than likely will not notice a difference when browsing the web or checking email, you will certainly notice a difference on a LAN with certain applicatons.

I was having problems with Synergy being very laggy on the M11x which was the client. For those that don't know Synergy is a program that allows you to use 1 keyboad and mouse with more than 1 pc. It sends the keyboard and mouse signals over the local network to said client machine/s.

After disabling the feature and resolving the Synergy client lag I decided to run some tests by pinging my gateway repeatedly and recording the avg latency with "Minimum Power Consumption" both Enabled, and Disabled.

Enabled and ping -t to about 100 packets:
    avg latency of 5ms

Disabled and ping -t to about 100 packets:
    avg latency of 2ms

@krypto = I will need to uncheck the min power consumption on the wifi when I get home. That would be a problem for people that are on the fringe of their wireless network. Mine is that way in my bedroom. Be cool if we could activate a shortcut button to change this for when we need it.

On another subject, what can cause the device to come out of sleep mode while closed? I shut the lid last night, the leds went out and the device was silent. but this morning I noticed the lights on and fan running. The device was cool, but running none the less. I opened the lid and it then went into sleep while the lid was open. Strange. Need to check on it when I get home.

Dell really shaved power consumption in every way they could, lol. To be honest though if I am connected to a network I want my latency to be as low as possible. I am sure I'd never use a shortcut like that. Good idea though.....oooooo...especially if your battery is getting low and you still have some stuff to do online. So I guess maybe on a rare occasion something like that would come in super handy.

Anyone else having issues resuming Windows?

I closed my lid yesterday when I went to sleep, I didn't select sleep or stand by or anything just closed it. Today in the morning I opened it and clicked the power button and the keyboard / etc lighted up by the screen was black with a little thing on the top left blinking like it was thinking. I gave it about 1minute then forcefully shut it down by holding the power button and it told me windows failed resuming do I want to try resuming again or to delete the resuming data and start up. So I clicked delete and start up and it worked fine but seems to have issues resuming.

Anyone else have this experience? Or know a fix?

This may just be a coincidence but it said I had 6 hours 45minutes on my laptop then I did like the multi touch scrolling and I saw the time drop to 5 hours 30minutes, it could be something else or it could be that I activated the multi touch.

I am just really curious about that.

kevin I guess I figured it's normal since so many ppl have complained about it. So you have ZERO gaps all around the frame? If so I may call this in, but I don't really want a tech messing with my computer haha. You don't even have a 1mm gap anywhere around the E2E?

I have been following most of the threads and I think this belongs here. I am running an M-11x with the 7300 processor at 1.3 ghz and my problem is that the power supply gets very hot and eventually the green light on it goes out and it loses power. I unplug it and plug it back in and I will be able to play for about an hour and it happens again. Mostly, I run WoW in the performance mode as this happens. Has this happened to anybody else yet or do I just have a bum charger?

You should definitely get your charger replaced. Even after an hour or two of straight benchmarking my PSU was fine, warm never hot. If it loses power that right there is reason to get a new one.

Well. The technician from Dell came in yesterday, and he replace the entire LCD screen. I tested the webcam a few times, now it work perfectly.
So, I guess it was a hardware issue on the webcam.
While he is installing the new LCD, i notice there is a gap in the new lcd. I pointed it out to him, and he was shocked as well. He say he will report it to Dell.

Gah,... I wonder what that will mean if they send a tech out to me specifically FOR the gap, haha. I guess I'll look at it first to see if it is worse.

I'm having trouble grasping why Dell cannot have plastic cut to a specific size accurately. TOY manufacturers can do it.

Still have not heard back form the AW requested PM (though it's only been a day)

okay missing some drivers after clean install. I know for sure something deals with the multicard reader since that's not working. So far all else seems good, haven't tried my video out ports yet though. Bluetooth is installed and wifi etc. Not sure what they could be. attached is device manager.

Usually you have to install the motherboard chipset, and as you mentioned, your memory card reader to get rid of those.

I dont think you are going to want to do that in the screen, though someone posted a pic of an aftermarket one that fits in the chassis (along w/ the wwan card?) earlier that might be an option.

Gobi isn't even expensive. if you MIGHT use it, just get it. I'll never use it, so i didn't get it. That simple. Installing it could void your warranty, so its better just to buy it with the system.
