My M11xR1 is set to overclock mode by default. However, to boost the battery life for the lappy, is there a way to underclock the CPU via any 3rd party programs or software rather than making the change thru' the BIOS?

You don't need to do that. When you overclock with the bios option you actually get better battery life because it undervolts itself. Although on some systems this causes BSODs. I myself get random BSODs while OC option is on. More fequent when I let my computer idle... only happened twice whilst gaming.

Is this true for R2's as well?

For R2s, you have an option in the BIOS called "Speedstep" This automatically downclocks your CPU when possible on Battery to preserve life.

R1s don't have any similar option.

@DJ The posted information above is not correct. R1's have Intel Speedstep in the bios with 2 options - Enable/Disable. (and Yes my family has 2 x R1's)

@Ryukendo - Just enable Speedstep and play with the power options in either comand center or windows 7 to get the best combination of performance and battery. Since every's needs are different there is no substitute to modifying the settings yourself and then performing your normal everyday routine. It may take several days or even a week by hopefully you will find that SWEET spot that works best.

    Take Care,

    StevenX

Yeah, my mouse and entire computer becomes frozen, and any sounds freezes too. Really annoying, only happened a time or two. I'm gonna be starting a new thread, because I don't know exactly how to do this update! Tried last night and didn't get anywhere with USB drive.
