I've seen the Mobile Intel(R)4 Series Chipset as an optional Windows Update for a while and just ignored it.

It wouldn't work when using a Nvidia hybrid driver setup.

Today I noted an update shield on the Shut Down button, so given I wasn't doing much just restarted my system.

Later, fan seemed to be on a bit much so checked Nvidia to see what state I was in.

    No Nvidia option.

OK, no biggie, I'll just Fn+F6.... nothing.

Quick look around and it seems the Mobile Intel(R)4 Series Chipset update was moved from optional to important and it just installed itself.

Intel display adapter now version 2202 instead of my original 2020.

    Doh!

Disabled Windows Update automatic installs, hid the update and re-installed Nvidia and back in business.

Haven't read any other M11xR1 owners having this issue, but just beware.

Many thanks for the warning. Disabled the auto-update function as well.

D*** it! I got it this morning, screen resolution dropped to 800x600, but without freezing. I thought, "what the hell? nvidia vga failed? after my 8800m gtx, now it's my alienware's turn?"
I tried to reinstall the NVidia driver, but on welcome screen, lcd turns blank.
Can anybody here confirm that your Driver Signature Enforcement Override still works? Mine does not show test mode anymore after restart.
    Cheers

    Yes, Driver signing still works.

Even after Windows Update installed the Intel chipset 2202(software) I was still in test mode(due to signing system files) and the notebook did not boot up in safe mode, just standard/normal Win7. To the untrained eye, my notebook looked and acted no differently, until I started looking for nVidia.

What M11xR1 hybrid driver set are you using? I've installed a few higher versions of Nvidia hybrid driver set in the past (Intel 2226/Nvidia 265.90), which haven't worked, but they did not impact the system boot or Intel(IGP) functionality.

When I reinstalled my nVidia hybrid driver set after Windows Update had installed the Intel 2202 chipset, I did a clean install of the nVidia hybrid driver set and re-signed the two system files.

I'm using nVidia 260.63/Intel 2020 from Nautis, which is an older version of what other people are now loading.

I normally have a few spare Windows Restore Points up my sleeve, just so I can be a smug git, if things ever do good pear-shape.

    Thanks DrGoodvibes.
I'm using 260.63/2020 from Nautis as well.
My solution was to system restore it to the checkpoint right before the Windows Update was applied. Then everything works again normally.
Finally, I hid the Windows Intel driver. Solved. :D

    @RRuKi (and DrGoodvibes)....

I have this issue. I am running in discrete mode at the moment as a work around.

I probably will be able to use a restore point to get it all back.

How did you hide the Intel driver?
Will that stop Windows from trying to reapply the update?

    Cheers.
