    a) how is it playing
    b) what settings
    c) tweaks?

Last two days have been fantastic.

    a) Smooth, expect for the constant lag of course (but that isn't the computer's fault). Only lag from hardware I ever got was my first match when a zoomed up on an explosion.

    b) The stock medium settings, expect with Textures up to High and AF to 2x
    c) Not smart enough for that stuff. :p

It seems that as long as you have the usual stuff like TS and EVGA/MSI it should run fine (assuming that the awful lag gets fixed).

    thanks for the info!

I have seen the Alpha videos, but if anyone can do some beta videos that'd be awesome.

I played 150 hrs of Blackops on the m11x, are the FPS similar to that then?

Haven't played Black Ops, but from what I heard, the PC optimization was terrible. BF3 should be the polar opposite, so factoring in Frostbite 2, you should hopefully be getting similar frames but a better image.

Just tested it out with Fraps.

Low Settings - around 25 FPS outside, 30 inside
Medium Settings - around 22 FPS outside, 28 inside
High Settings - around 19-20 FPS outside, 24 inside

Anyone else starting out with the game running smooth, and then as the match goes on the framerate gets worse and worse? This is happening to me and eventually it gets to unplayable lows

not really sure what the deal is with BF3, but the same thing would happen in BFBC2, and it was an issue with PunkBuster. maybe check into that?

I cant make fraps work with the game, but I have been playing in high settings and runs decent, at 1280x720, I dunno the frames, but I can play it fine...

    Temps after like 30 minutes:

    CPU Max: 81°C
    GPU Max: 64°C

oh cool, yeah i was just curious bout the guy who said it was slowing down.

same behavior for most games, "works great and then it just starts chugging"

good to know youre playing alright.

The chugging is probably a heat issue...
This game turns my cpu into an oven for some reason, if I don't use my cooler, i get 85+, meaning it begins to throttle...
A thing i realized about new games is that both low and mid high setting have almost the same performance...
I'm currently playing it on medium and it's very playable. I hope to see more optimization on release day...

Game plays just fine here on both an R2 and an R3 (little slower on the R2 obviously). Uploading a video covering both machines to my YouTube channel now.

running bf3 drivers.. runs decent on low/medium settings.. game is glitchy.. getting stuck in random spots

black ops runs smoother imo.. i'd rather wait for mw3

i dont have FRAPS but thats basically the experience i am getting based on other FPS games. ITs not amazing , but its DEFINITELY playable for anyone who is curious. ive yet to try it on the native monitor but on the external @ 1366 it looks oK. I have the PS3 version for comparison. its similar looking, but ps3 is probably a little smoother. Ill keep testing

r3 user here. i can get 33 frames outside with my gpu oc'd. it will go as high as 60 frequently when in the tunnels. It bounces down to 22-25 frames per second when going in large open spaces. Which makes me think that it will be completely unplayable on the larger levels like caspain. I read on the bf3 fourm some people who have insanely nice set ups get like 15 fps max in caspian. might just be a beta bug.

I found using a 4:3 resolution works better.
Also I noticed the framerates are better in different servers.
I am using High settings on my R2.
I have been messing around with motion blur and it seems to make it "smoother" but I have kept it on as it gives it somewhat of a more "realistic" effect.
This is still BETA! There will defiantly be a major update before the release fixing the clipping issues and other optimization fixes which will help frame rates.

I agree, if with a Beta we are getting playable frames with high settings and native resolutions (or close) expect to play the final game just fine...

And more with driver updates in the future...

Back to tracking down my optimus issue, blips for a moment when any game launches but obviously doesn't actually turn over, when I launch BF3 beta it will blip the activity icon, then BF3 beta states intel gpu not compatible.

While list set correctly. More hours of reading optimus related posts.

May I ask what Intel drivers you are all running?

    m11xR2 btw

Have you OC'ed your GPU? It seems that such a demanding game (especially for graphics) will benefit from any time of OC you can give it. You might check out the volt mod to help boost your GPU overclocks even more.

Very well, I'll look into OCing the GPU as well.
Though how are some people getting the graphics on high/medium without significant lag!? Mind you, I've also got the new Nvidia drivers meant for BF3

If you don't mind the sacrifice of image quality, turning down the resolution helps a ton as well. 800x600 distorts the image a bit, so I'm currently on 1024x768. Increased my frame rate and allowing me to up graphical settings. And honestly, when you're running around, smoother gameplay and better textures make more of a difference than resolution (for me at least).

IMHO the game is unplayable on the R2, at least with my settings. At least 75% of the time I am getting below 30 fps (pretty much a constant 25) with all settings lowest and resolution of 1024 by 768. The game looks pretty horrible at these settings and lags, so I wont be picking this game up until I have a better laptop. (and the map in beta is a very small one with most of the game play occurring underground).

Make sure to check whether the lag you're experiencing is being caused by the hardware or by your internet. I started using an ethernet cable instead of wireless half a week ago, and all the Beta matches I've played since are much smoother. The R2's hardware can handle it, my wireless was lagging though.

M11x FTW is right... While technically it's playable, it's not enjoyable to play a game at below 30 FPS (I had FPS as low as 17, even on lowest settings)

The sad part is the beta levels are pretty small considering the size of some of the larger maps the full game will have. I shudder thinking of the horrible framerates the M11x would have trying to fly a jet around, or with large scale battles in open territory.

I read somewhere that there is no true Ultra in the Beta, or the Ultra settings from the Beta are not gonna be the same than the final game...

EA said you need SLI 580 to Ultra the game, and people are doing Ultra with single cards, so a lot of settings are not in the Beta...

Yeah, I can understand some lag coming from other sources and the game is still in beta. However, at the current state I would say that the game isn't really playable.

Yes, this was what I was trying to say. It is possible to play it, but its hardly fun.

I just disabled my OC/TS and ran the game. Seems to run just fine if not better. From what i've read it's the heat issue. Regardless, it plays pretty well at stock.

Can someone who is running the game smoothly tell me what they're doing with their system to make it so? I have the new 280.26 driver and i run the origin app with the nvidia processor, and i start a game SUPERSMOOTH. But then after the first couple minutes this weird lag picks up, then it just becomes unplayable and I end up backing out.

I'm playing this on normal very good. If you start your game normally and then start to see low fps, it's because of throttling. Don't overclock the processor. If I overclock mine to 166 and run the game, I get to 90C+ REALLY fast. At that temperature, you'll get throttle.

The way I found to work best is to overclock the GPU a lil bit, and leave the CPU stock, or at 150~.

    Hope I helped

When you say you are running it really well, do you mean you are getting about 25-30 fps when outdoors? That's what I'm getting and it isn't unplayable but it's not as enjoyable to me. I also worry that the larger maps could be unplayable.

Works fine for me. I would suggest using the server browser, as opposed to auto-matchmaking, so you can actually see that you are joining a populated, low-ping server.

I'm running it on Ultra/High (the majority of things on Ultra, but Shadows and Terrian on High) and it is running smoothly, but not "super fast". It runs with about 25 fps.

Btw, I'm not using the Beta Driver, the 280.26 has been running better than it! And my notebook is overclocked, in both the CPU and GPU cases.
