280.26 is better? Do you know what the FPS difference is?

BTW Caspian border is open to PC Players....this is the real test, unfortunately i uninstalled the game already. ANyone give it a shot? this level should be bigger, with vehicles, thus putting our R2 to the test.

Edit: here is the article http://kotaku.com/5847615/battlefield-3s-caspian-border-opens-to-pc-beta-testers-starting-today

Edit 2: My experience - i got into a 30 ping server, and it ran very well. Im using external monitor, auto settings, and 1440x900, and i had to get at least 30fps. I dont use FRAPS, but it was playing better than the MEtro rush map (i assume it was more lag, than fPS), but i def was able to fly around and use tanks effectively.

Well, I don't know if the FPS is really bigger than when I used the beta driver, BUT there is no drop in frame rate after some minutes of playing (with the beta driver after some time of gameplay it was impossible to continue playing due to the slowing of the graphics), and there are less bugs with it (like my weapon disappearing sometimes from my hand, and then coming back. Now it is less frequent).

I am getting the same thing I believe. When I start a multiplayer game (only, single player works just fine) the game attempts to open but right before it's about to go into the match will close and state, "Battlefield 3 Has Stopped Working" and will close. I have updated my NVidia drivers and have updated Punkbuster.

    I have an M11x R2 i7 4GB Nvidia 335m 1GB

I have checked several forums extensively and nothing. If anyone comes across a solution PLEASE let me know! Please!

ok so i use a 23" external monitor with my m11x r2 and would like to run this at native resolution (1920 x1080) on at least medium settings.. is this possible to run with 20+ frames?

    got an i5 OC/TS to 166, 4gb ram

otherwise i guess ill have to get it on xbox (paying for xbox live = lame)

Unless Dice crazily optimise it, no. Most people with i7 native rez on low settings achieve upwards to 40. (r2 that is).

Doubt it with that kind of resolution. i7 R2 gets mid-20's with medium settings on native, so I doubt an i5 exporting to a higher resolution would fare well. You could sacrifice some settings and some resolution and you might get what you're looking for.

Is anyone else still having the isssue resulting in the "Battlefield 3 Has Stopped Working" still? I managed to get the game running in multiplayer but am still having issues with this case returning. Any additional information is appreciated.

BTW, when I have been playing multiplayer the game has run great on my M11xR2.

Really? Even with that setpl OC?

On native with options set to Auto I'm lucky to get 30fps and it generally lags most of that time. Looks pretty horrendous to boot, jaggies etc :(

On a R2 i7640 OC at 162 with slight gpu OC.

seaseasea - instead of using fraps, why not enable the FPS meter in the game? It has one built in. I explained it in the other thread.
Hit the ~ key to open the console.
    The command is RENDER.DRAWFPS TRUE
Then hit ~ again to close the console.
Now you can see your fps without running fraps.

    Good Luck

Did anyone manage to find the ini file which retains these tweaks so you do not have to re-enter every time you start a game?

i.e. C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\Battlefield 3\settings\PROF_SAVE_profile would appear the right place but nothing I stick in there seems to take.

For anyone have problem on getting low fps on Battlefield 3 try this !
    1. Get Intel Turbo Boost "I7 or I5" Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0
    2. Game Booster 3.1 Game Booster 3.0 Free Download, Speed Up PC for Top Gaming Performance
    3. Tested! - Get this driver! for Nvidia 285.62 (Lastest Version, I used it and it improved BF3's performance) - NVIDIA DRIVERS 285.62 WHQL
    4. EVGA (OC your GPU dp as your own RISK!)
    5. If you your FPS dont increase by the following steps just GO ! Reimage your laptop :)

ENJOY! HOPE IT HELP YOU. I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL WHEN YOU REALLY WANT TO PLAY, BUT YOU CAN'T REALLY PLAY. REP ME! ENJOY AGAIN!
IF MY SUGGESTION IS NOT RIGHT. WE TALK! THAT IS WHAT I DID ON MY BABE LAPTOP :)!!

I just wanted to let anyone know that if your having problems starting the game sometimes: Turn off origin in game. That will help you sooooo MUCH!!!

Origin: customize and control origin (looks like a gear next to the question mark symbol) > settings > far right tab called in-game > uncheck origin in-game box. Done :D

Guys, an update: I'm running the game at Ultra Settings, all Ultra, except the Terrain, which is on Medium. Running even with HBAO on (not the SSAO). As I'm using the game in an external monitor, I'm running it at 720p (not the default m11x resolution). Using the driver before the latest one (280.26). If you are luck enough, like I was, for getting these settings of overclock shown in my signature in your m11xR2 (both CPU and GPU), feel free to play it smoothly on Ultra settings.

    Later!

What sort of fps are you getting? The definition of smooth varies from person to person.

Your rig in overclocked slightly higher than mine but Ultra settings provides me with around 10fps. Definitely not smooth for me!

Ummm I disagree with you, if it lags it isn't smooth, even if someone says that it is. I'm like at 18-20 fps or even more. Not lagging or something. Like I said, its smooth =]. Maybe something is dropping yous fps, maybe even the Origin client. If you reachs 8.770 on benchmark, then you can play this great game on Ultra. This applies to The Witcher 2 (without Ubersampling) and Crysis 2, too damn heavy games.

So I'm even expecting to play Oblivion Skyrim on at least High settings.

Well I can tell you that when I was playing around with the settings in BF3 and started getting any less than 20fps, it was FAR from smooth. It definitely just isn't my computer either. I've seen the settings cranked up to ultra on a friends desktop for funnies and hitting anywhere between 15-20fps was not smooth at all.

You must have an exceptionally high tolerance for low framerates (which may actually be a good thing ;) ) as some people on these boards even find < 30fps unplayable.

As I have said, it can be more than 20 fps (what is more probable) and I don't know what is the right number, BUT its far from lag. If at 20 fps you are lagging or it is slow, than its more than 20 fps. And 30 fps unplayable is just an overstatement.

why not just use fraps (or any other fps tool) and tell us the fps you are getting. telling us it is 'smooth' is irrelevant as the definition varies from person to person.

Used both fraps and the command which Rypac gave me. The fps range was 15-22 fps, depending on the area. Well, I consider this fps range smooth, not completely uber smooth, perfect, but it is. Anything that doesn't lag or make the movements looks unreal are smooth. The runnings, explosions, particles in the air, movements in general, are all with real feeling, looking like real persons running and causing a great imersion, so this is smooth. As I said, not super fast. To be perfect, it needs at least constant 25 fps.

Some people can consider killing without any good reason a right thing too, but in fact it isn't. Like people which consider anything under 30 fps unplayable and not smooth. It is in fact smooth, but not super fast.

Remembering that I'm using HBAO, if I was using SSAO and putting Motion Blur under 50, probably it would run even faster.

    http://www.reddit.com/r/battlefield3/comments/kwnip/my_battlefield_3_screenshot_comparison_ssao_vs/

Here the difference between using HBAO and SSAO on fps. At least 5 fps of difference.

Oh yeah, and I'm using the 280.26 driver, not the 285.62. This one is making me lag like hell, and I just don't know why, with the same fps.

Someone might find it useful. When I play without extended monitor I can't really get past 30 fps at auto settings, regardless the resolution. It makes no difference whether its 1366x768 or 800x600, but on external one the 1280x1024 (so no widescreen) is better then m11x's 800x600.

Right now I'm playing at 1024x768 auto settings, gpu oc core:500/shader:1200/memory: 920. setpll 185 Throttlestopped, and Im getting 40-50 fps really smooth. M11xr2 i5

I'll have to give this a try.

    285.79, Auto settings.
I've noticed that System Interrupts (on resource monitor) consumed 20% of my CPU and that induces mouse lag problem (99% CPU usage while running the game), can anyone help me to check that?

yeah I would say my fps are similar, pretty much a constant 35 on 32 rush. GPU is OC at (525/1260/790). Had to lower usual settings cause bf3 appears to push everything to the limit. Everything on low, resolution at 1366 by 768.
So my verdict is if you have an R2 with GPU overclocked to at least 500 core clock and your i7 is at/above 160 this game is pretty much playable (which is much improved from the beta). Also, you need to play on your laptop, since external monitors decrease performance a bit, which will drop fps below 30.

And yet, the best driver for running BF 3 has been the 280.26. This beta driver has improved the fps for sure, comparing with the latest driver, but not sufficiently. But thank you for posting it anyway, DavyGT.

Is the 280 really more optimised for bf3 than the later ones designed for the game? Seems a bit strange :/ Can we still download these drivers, or have they been removed?

"This driver package supports GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500-series desktop GPUs as well as ION desktop GPUs."

Is the 335M considered a desktop GPU? If not, that would make sense why their not compatible. What driver are you using at the moment?

Tried these myself and I noticed a large boost in performance (5fps+ in most scenarios). Still not quite playable though as it still moves between 20 and 35fps (15-20 is NOT smooth in any scenario......).

I think I will try the 280.26 drivers mentioned earlier and see what happens.

Eurgh, the 280.26 drivers listed earlier in this thread are the desktop ones. Go directly to Nvidias Beta / Archived section for the 280.26 Verde drivers....

EDIT: Utter crap compared the new 285.79 drivers....

A total stuttery mess (something the 285.79 drivers fixes)

Not if you are using the latest driver. But with the 280.26, it is smooth.

I experienced some slowing only at the second scenario, when all things were destroyed. But I bet that they will, in a close future, release some patch which will improve the game's FPS, like they did in The Witcher 2.
