Well, aside from the damaged left lighted-speaker and the plastic cover that seems to be coming off on the back next to hinge, my sister pointed out to me last night that there is some pretty visible light leakage on the left and right of the LCD screen. It can only be visible when looking at an angle (not visible when looking right at it). Is this normal?!

Anyways, called Dell and due to the numerous issues with my system, they're sending in a replacement. I asked to make sure it wouldn't be a refurbished unit, and she assured me that. Can I trust her?!

Anyone have any experiences with exchanged systems?!

Photos of the problems I had with my system:

This is a detail which has to be worked out at the time of the replacement authorization. As long as you and the rep agree to a new system, then its a possibility it wil be a refurbished system. If the rep does agree to have a new system built, be sure to have documentation on this (copy of a chat transcript, email, etc.).

From dealing with Dell over the years and hanging around the Dell forum, as I understand it - a refurbished system is typically sent from the Dell Outlet stock. They still go through testing and checking. If there is anything wrong with it, you just call up the rep who authorized the replacement and they will fix it.

Hope that reassures you a bit. ;)

I have out-right refused refurbs in the past and will continue to do so if my m11X starts cracking up.
There's no reason to give me a refurb after I paid full price for a new unit that is defective. I will never understand a companies logic behind that one, let alone the fact that we as consumers have allowed them to do so.

you can do that as well. Again, it comes down to discussing with the rep handling your case - if you both agree on a new system, then a new system it is :)

just a thought. i think this also comes down to buyers too. there are people who buy stuffs then return them. remember once open and use = used item. these items needs to be reuse in some sort. and i do believe some refurbs comes from these. it would be the worst nightmare if they actually repackage and resale those return good in brand new condition. that would be more scary for new buyers.

If they were going to send me a used system after I paid full price for a new one and THEY sent it defective then there had better be several hundred dollars coming back with that refurb.

Refurbs = a smoking deal option on the website. Otherwise ya if I can have a refurb sent to me over night and it's just a BNOB then I might consider it, but when it comes to my cash I am pretty patient. Hell I waited 3 weeks for my replacement GTX480 after the first one from EVGA let it's magic blue smoke escape!

    Thanks for sharing guys!

So, I spoke to another Dell representative just now (from their XPS dept. I called them accidentally), and she told me that the new replacement has been entered and it is processing now. I asked whether this would be a refurbished and she told me it would not be refurbished. It will be a new system. Any ways of finding this out when it arrives? Unfortunately, i don't have the order number yet, so I can't really track it's progress for the time being.

I just hope I don't get any of the same issues I got with my previous one.

BTW, I have updated the OP with a link to an album with the photos I took to send Dell about my issues. Check it out:

Am I crazy to want a new one?

I probably wouldn't have even noticed but I think it's reasonable terms for a replacement.

Glad to hear they are taking care of you. The light leakage on the LCD is definitely a new one for me on this system. Is anyone else with an M11xR2 (or R1 for that matter) seeing this issue? If so, please PM me with your service tag.

What is the problem with the speaker LEDs? That the left one looks brighter than the right? I can't really tell from the photos.

The gaps on the back definitely look to be out of spec...

Can you please PM me your service tag and the DPS exchange number so that I can capture your system for failure analysis?

Thanks and apologies for the problems...
