Nevermind Dell's estimate. They always play it safe. There are very few instances where they will hit that date, or even later, but the great majority will be in way before. I'd say 2 weeks or so is a healthy estimate.
-
They tend to royally screw my orders up, so we'll see
I have an r1 so I'm not exactly hurting for it.
-
Since you already have R1, there is no reason to pre-order R2, unless you have certain timeframe to return the R1 and replace it w/ R2 or sell it on ebay early and hopefully it didn't take a dip too much. There is no way to tell how much performach you can gain for each game, unless when you did your own benchmark and you can tell how much GPU power was used then you can make an educational guess about how much performance you will gain based on GPU idle processes during the game. Otherwise, just wait for benchmark on production unit of the R2.
-
They removed the i3 model from the NZ site and raised the price of the R1 and R2 $100.
Yay! -
would someone mind answering my previous question please
i know i seem inpatient but i need an answer soon
thx
-
I'm waiting for the same info as you. I wont likely bother with the i7 because of money but if the i5 isnt much of an improvement over the c2d I may as well save cash and go with the c2d.
Might have to wait until some folks actually get their hands on one. -
Trying to get it under $800 right now what do you guys think?

Has NO one seen this?!
Intel Core i5-520UM benchmarked on Asus UL30JT
That hints that the i5-520UM is twice the speed of the SU7300.. -
It's been linked a few times already but real game performance isn't the same as synthetic benchmark performance.
-
I didn't know we were only talking about game performance. I think that would be marginal, but would definitely relieve the bottlenecks of the old SU7300s.
Definitely an increase in processor intensive tasks though such as Photoshop and video conversion? -
Some NBR members say they're getting their R2's within next week or the week after that. But I guess that's in UK or EU..
-
Mine is estimated to arrive 7/7. Hope that's conservative as I'm leaving on vacation on the 2nd.
-
Smart $$$ is on the i5, but at least the i7 upgrade price it not outrageous. Yes I ordered the i7 myself, which I probably shouldn't have. I had my config exactly like yours, only added 4GB RAM to quality for the 100 off. Last second I added the i7, said to myself what's another $135, still came in at JUST under $1000 with tax.
I'd say go for it!
-
Since you need the answer real bad, all I can give you i my personal opinion. Because there is relatively little info on i5-520UM and almost none for i7-620UM. According to Intel comparison page(which have been posted here quite a fe times), the difference between these 2 CPU is none other than CPU speed & cache. Featue wise, they look the same. According to intel site, the price difference between the two is somewhere between $100-150. Well, dell chose to chage us $150 for the upgrade, while I'm sure(gueesing here) the actual cost difference would be under $100. The question to yourself is whether it worth the difference. For me, I chose to go all out, because I can afford it. And upgrading later isn't very an option. I suppose I could still cancel the pre-order once the benchmark statrt proping up. Which I personally think in term of gaming, it wouldn't be any significant. What I rather interested in, which could make a hugh difference is the overclockability. So, I can only hope whoever get their hands early on this unit for testing/review purpose would benchmark both i5 and i7 for non-overclock and OCed. This is the only thing that is practically unguessable at this point.
NOTE: hear that, people? I want the numbers on OCed vs non-OC. -
I plan to put a skin on the M11x and spray paint over it to cover up the alien head on the lid. That got me interested on what material the chassis is. Reading the other posts, the soft touch Stealth Black seems to be a rubbery material. What about the Lunar Shadow? Is it hard plastic or metal?
Edit: I am asking because I was on the phone with a sale rep earlier and he went looking for the answer "online" (his word, not mine) for quite a while and still could not tell me anything beside the color =( -
The Australian store is the same now too. i3 cpu no longer available, i5 is the base advanced model costing $100 more, but the i7 upgrade on top of that price seems $50 less. Still, if you build the same unit that I did at the beginning of this week (i7, 500gb hd, 4g ram), it's $50 more now. Not good for aussies. If you didn't buy alreay you might consider holding off a bit to see if the prices drop.
-
My assumption is hard plastic like the R1. I'd HIGHLY recommend painting your skin BEFORE you apply it, or simply getting a custom skin made in the color of your choice and skipping the paint.
-
I don't think any coupons are working, period. Typical coupons aren't working on the R1 right now either.
-
The ones for EPP are.
-
Has anyone's order shown up on there account order status. I ordered last night and it still has not shown up. I order through EPP site.
-
Mine showed immediately, but I didnt do EPP
-
I guess I can give dell a few days, then its time to call.
-
I ordered mine last night and it showed up pretty much immediately. Did you get the order confirmation email?
Edit: Mine was an EPP order too. -
Yes I got the Dell Order Has Been Acknowledged email.
-
Same here. I got the email but it isn't showing up under order status on dell.com. Although, if you click the order number link in the email they sent it takes you to the order status page for that order. It's weird why it doesn't work directly from dell, but I don't think we should worry.
-
Placed my order very excited. Sucks they are a month out. Got it for $1022 4GB RAM, i7 option w/ bluetooth.
-
1022 includig tax or without tax?
-
Yeah, I'm in that same situation. I got the email confirmation but nothing on my order status. I don't even have that order number link either. Hmm, maybe I should call dell later to make sure it all in order. BTW ordered through EPP via Dell Rep
EDIT: I googled "dell order status" and the first search link lets you look up the status from the info in the confirmation email. -
go here and fill in the info from your epp confirmation email. Make sure you are logged out already from dell so clear all cookies and cache then click on this link.
https://support.dell.com/support/order/status.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&cs=
you should be able to get all your info there. I got the email conf for my epp order with the boeing discount, 10% off epp discount, dpp 2%, and $100 off.

That is the exact same config I have. I am going to add an Intel Gen 2 80GB SSD. This laptop is gonna scream!
-
I need to call dell and get my 4% off for using my DP card. Do you work for Boeing?
-
it is valid for employee's, retired employee and their families. What is the DPP discount 2% or 4%. My system is in production can we still make changes to the order or is it too late. Also once it is in production how much time till shipment my estimate date is july 9th.....blah!!!!
-
I've been holding out for the i5/i7 processors since day 1 of release and have now placed my order with a 7/7 ship date. I went with the i7, 4GB RAM, and SSD. My current desktop PC is an old single-core P4 3.2GHz without even a PCI-E slot, so I can't wait to get my new laptop!
Since the M11x will now become my primary gaming PC, can anyone recommend a docking station or another method of conveniently connecting it to my monitor and other devices (keyboard, mouse, speakers, etc.)? -
I just ordered the M11x with i7 + 4gb + 160gb using EPP + $100.
About the cpu, the additional price was $135 which is about 14% of the total. I know there are no new benchmarks yet from the users, but if I equate with i5 1.06 and i7 1.2 that's about 14% increase. So to me, it is about in line with the difference.
Most importantly is that CPUs are not interchangable, I can change HDDs, add memory anytime in the future but I cannot change CPU. So to me in this aspect, I am willing to err on the faster CPU than regret later. I also know the fact that I can get cheaper memory and HDD capacity in shorter time for the same price.
My $0.02... -
It's weird but, if you do NOT sign in, and at the bottom of the main page you click your order status, and type in the info (which I used my dell purchase ID/Zip code combo), it shows the status of your order. Though, when I log in, and check order status, it shows nothing, so maybe theyre lagging a bit on updating everyone's account because they are getting backed up by the large amount of orders that we're doing? Try not logging in and putting in your order status, it turns out fine.
And yes, I got the confirmed dell order e-mail as well. All this happened instantly I may add.
Though, honestly it's not something to worry about, if you can see your order status via method I stated above, AND you have an e-mail, you should be fine.

About the launch date of CPUs, hardware vendors get the samples way before they launch their products. I am not surpised that when DELL launched R1, they were finalizing R2. Now with R2 shipping, R3 is already half way through RnD.
I used to work for a taiwanese company and they have to plan their production lines months ahead. They just can't switch models or redesign the mobos 2 months prior, it'll kill their timetable and blow their costs skyhigh. -
BTW, I am planning to get a wireless keyboard/mouse + monitor. Does anyone know if I can turn the notebook on without having to flip open the screen and work very much with the M11X like a PC?
-
Is there any reason we can't use the seagate hybrid ssd on the m11x? If so will any of the notebook models work?>
NCIX.com - Buy Seagate Momentus Gforce 7200.4 500GB 2.5IN SATA 7200RPM 16MB Notebook Hard Drive OEM - ST9500420ASG In Canada. -
You can, buts its not worth it IMO. I would get the base 160GB drive and save your $$$ for The Intel 160GB G2 SSD. They should be dropping in price soon.
-
My understand is that you have to flip open the screen to power it on.
-
Hey guys, how much storage would one realistically need in a laptop?
I would want to buy an SSD (probably by myself, the $560 dell price is RIDICULOUS. almost the price of another m11x, lol). I'm looking at 128 gb models. I dunno though... are these large enough to store multiple new games and the OS and school files? I cannot imagine the school files taking more than 5 gb total over the next few years, music, idc, i can have it on an external through usb, but games, im worried about the 128 gb not being enough. i mean, if games take up like 10 gb each, with 28 gb going to the OS, school stuff, and some small selection of music, then thats like only 10 games! Ouch... still, would like the speed. Any thoughts? -
Yeah 128GB is relatively small, and SSDs are still pretty pricey. I have 2x 250GB HDs, then 320GB on my desktop and 1 external 320GB HD.
But 2x250GB works for me just fine. I don't keep too many videos on my hard drives (delete the ones I saw 2+ times).
250GB on a laptop that is getting carried around works well for me.
-
I just dropped my order for the r2, this thing is gonna rock hard man!!
-
Congrats! I'm curious to see what kind of performance gains it'll have.
-
Ordered my M11x w/ i5 and all stock with a estimated delivery of 07/12/2010.
Do these things show up sooner than the date usually? I am on the west coast of Canada if it makes a difference.
Thanks,
theblah -
Am I being punished? I couldnt order my m11x. every time I add to the cart, it keeps giving me errors
-
Thanks! Got a custom black and totally non-descriptive skin from invisibledefense.com for about 30 bucks. Hurray for a machine that is not going to draw unwanted attention!
-
Unfortunately, SSDs are still so expensive that I can't warrant purchasing one even for my desktop. My suggestion is to do wait a year/two tops, and prices will have come down to a much more reasonable area. Then look into a 200-250gig SSD.
-
what is the dpp 2% and or 4% discount discussed in this thread. How can we make use of it?
-
God I hate being in the UK! Just compared the US and the UK websites for the upgrades:
i7 640 CPU - US $150 UK $265
4gb ram - US $50 UK $120
BT - US $20 UK $45
Was going to place an order but with those prices Dell can go and take a jump. Looks like I will wait for the envy 14 and hope Dell will lower the prices over here in the meantime
