One more item... on the Intel Arrandale ULV processors, which in the context of the M11x R2, I specifically mean the Core i5 520UM and the Core i7 640UM models, those *do* share the same basic Intel technologies... both have the same core architecture, fabrication process, and Gx core as well. So *both* will support Nvidia Optimus. The only differences between the two models are the core base speed (and turbo boost technology speed), and LLC cache size... I agree this should get into a FAQ... it appears that some of the worldwide Dell websites are getting the details polished/more accurate. I for one am *highly* confident that Optimus will run on the Core i7 640UM model, which I am still trying to buy via Dell/EPP
- Kirk200 -
...and Hyperthreading on the newest Intel Core i (Nehalem/Westmere) architecture is *much* improved from Intel's original implementation on the Pentium 4 (Netburst) architecture... more silicon (non-shared) resources means less conflict opportunities.
This is another reason why I want an M11x R2 instead of R1... plus who doesn't like a couple more threads in your Windows desktop gadget, right?
- Kirk200 -
anyone know about Alienware Arena and signing up to get the $100 coupon?
-
nope... elaborate please
-
Will the i5/i7's give a performance boost in regards to running the the Alienware AlienFX options in the background i.e. alien sense etc?
This would be handy as I would rather not disable it as advised in the M11x R1 optimization thread. -
thats exactly what i ordered.

i am wondering if there are any strings attached -
i did the deal in 30 min with one rep at epp...
depends on the competency of the person you are dealing with imho. -
Offer expired on 5/8/10. Someone asked in the alienware forums.
-
That offer is apparently out of date now
*edit* looks like i was a bit slow
-
Hopefully they'll have some new offer after that one.
-
The palm rests on the G51 are comfy but they always look grease stained. I like the palm rests on the G50 better.

I am in the same boat as you and I really don't think the m11X is worth $1700 as a glorified netbook that can play games.

Got my EDD wait for it : 18 June 2010 thats in a weeks time !
-
Nice date Neil... did you go EPP or just bite the bullet and go the normal online dell.com route?
-
too bad that coupon is expired
-
Is this for an R2?
-
No EPP - Ordered via Dell (I'm in the UK though).
-
yup. 10 char
-
EPP Just came online with i7 :-D :-D time to take the plunge I think :-O
-
q.q i cant upgrade because the models are different. does any one think that my m11x(sig below with 160gig and not intel ssd) 2years warranty can be sold for 900?
-
Going to see how much we can lower the price
-
Yes it can be sold for that price IMO
-
OK after trying a load of coupons I ended up with a $100 discount and free next business day delivery after shipping. I opted for Soft Touch Stealth Black Intel® Core™ i7 640UM (4M Cache, 1.2 GHZ with 2.266 GHz Max Turbo Frequency)
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 800MHz - Might upg to 8gb at a later date
500GB SATAII 7,200RPM - Again might upg to a large SSD when they become more affordable.
So I just raped my credit card for a total of $1279 inc tax. Delivery date est 7/7/10 - Gonna be a long month! -
which coupon did you use? -
Just got off the phone after talking to an EPP sales rep..Here is the "unofficial" quote that I got..Looks like a good deal..Let me know what you guys think
Soft Touch Stealth Black
Intel® Core™ i7 640UM
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 800MHz
500GB SATAII 7,200RPM
No bluetooth
The quote that I got before taxes was $1047..So it should roughly be around $1125 after tax..Will post the official quote once it gets sent to me -
See this thread: m11x r2 now available us epp site
-
They're bouncing it back to this thread.
-
looks like a great deal, i can't get it under $1200 after taxes with the same setup with a smaller hdd.
-
Did you try calling and haggling the price down?
-
As I mentioned in the other threads, NO posting EPP Coupon codes. For an explanation as to why, see my post here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/6327347-post1106.html
Sorry folks. Questions/comments - PM ME. Do not post here. -
Did you haggle at all? If you did, what did you say that made them drop the price?
-
You can haggle all you want - I do. When calling, get a quote. Work it a bit and if you can't drop the price to where you want it to be, ask them to save the quote and call back later on and see if another rep can work a better price (reference your previous quote #). In today's economy, no reason not to 'haggle'.
-
I didn't have to haggle much..I used my 10% epp discount + $100 off epp coupon and I was also able to get 2% off with my DPA..Also I have to mention that the sales rep was really helpful and knew what he was talking about..He also clarified that the Core i7 640UM processor WILL have Optimus switching
-
so what are everyone's thoughts on the i5/i7 CPU upgrade?
-
Why was my post deleted? I was just stating that Dell will give you the EPP discount whether you are part of an EPP program or not.
-
So how much was the damage? I'm strongly considering ordering one of these lol.
-

Next time, PM a mod if you have a question relating to a post delete/removal.
EPP is a program which Dell and other manufacturers offer to employees, students and other large purchase groups. This is something which is worked out between Dell and the organization participarting in Dell's EPP program. This is not something for just anyone and you must qualify for it.
Again, see your school resource office, employer's Human Resource Department or organization's program coordinator to see if they participate in the EPP program. If they do, they can direct you on how to access the program and obtain coupons.
This is not something which will be permitted here. See my other post and the linked post for "why".
Any further discussion on this needs to be via PM.
Thanks. -
So you were able to get a discount using your dpa and using a coupon code?
-
Nice man, thats what I'm trying to get mine down to...
Hmm... my EPP site is till not up, for my University....
Didn't people say that the R2 was on EPP now? -
Yes it is... as long as you have your participation# from your org's rep, you can access it via the main EPP site (don't have to go through their portal).
-
Okay, so here's how to get i7 + 320Gb 7200rpm + 4Gb ram. for under 1k before tax
base = 950
- 10% off alienware systems = 855
+ i7 = 1005
+ 320 HDD = 1080
+ 4gb RAM = 1110
- 100 off 999 or more = 1010
- 4% w/ dell preffered coup. = 970ish <- before tax -
Yes, thats right..I got 2% off using dpa in addition to the $100 off coupon code and the 10% epp discount
-
This thread confuses the living jebus out of me.
At any rate, ain't it weird that Alienware are not posting the performance increase results of i5 and i7?
Why dont we know anything about how much better they are? C2Ds being superior? ouch

Keyboard is not as good as thinkpad (feels kind of cheap). The build quality is ok but it does feel more like a netbook than a full fledged laptop (i.e. SD Card sticks out from chassis, ill fitting plastic on hinges, no clasp, keyboard travel etc). -
Oh sweet, thanks BatBoy, ill try it that way then...
-
How did you get 4% off with DPA? Did you just sign up for it?I was only able to get 2%
-
Actually, could anyone post the link to the Dell EPP site that has the R2 for discount, and tell me where to put in my university's #? Thanks in advance!
