I set my unit to dim after 1 minute and for the screen to turn off after another minute in order to save power.
After 1 minute, the screen dims like it is supposed to, but at the next minute the screen does not turn off. Instead, it becomes a light gray and stays that way, never quite shutting off the screen. That doesn't seem like it is saving power.
When I hit the keyboard to return it back to normal the unit stays at maximum dimness and I have to manually adjust brightness to a normal level?
Does anybody know anything about this? I've installed the latest "Verde" drivers.

That is strange. I'd settings return settings to default in Alien Fusion as well as Win7's own power plan settings and then test things again.
I'm a little unclear on whether or not changes in the one are reflected in the other as one or two people here have reported that they aren't. I'll test here in a bit to see.
EDIT: Alien Fusion and Win7's own power settings are in fact linked - as they should be. -
Thanks for your input Slickie, I reverted everything (Alien Fusion and Win7) back to default settings but my screen is still not turning off.
Instead it goes light gray, which is not exactly saving any energy, and when I touch a key to return to the desktop the brightness is adjusted to the lowest level 1. I have to manually move it back up. It seems like it actually changes the settings in Alien Fusion and Win7!
This is really confusing. I wonder if others have this problem too? Is it driver related or hardware?

After reinstalling all the drivers and even reinstalling the os using another hard drive, I still had that problem.
Finally I connected to an external monitor, the monitor shut off properly and the notebook screen still went white.
Definitely an lcd hardware problem. They're sending me a replacement LCD.
Hoping I gets me a Samsung like THX. -
I have the same issue with my new M11xR2. The screen screen dims properly, but when it's supposed to turn off, it begins to fade to black, but soon goes to gray/white instead of turning off.
Can you please update this thread to indicate whether the new LCD fixes the issue?
Thx. -
Yes, it was a dud panel. The new Samsung panel performs like a champ and turns off properly, even though when it recovers from the off position it lights up with these dramatic white lines that seem to be from some sort of power surge. I like it better than the AUO panel, its warmer and I can take it more w/o calibration.
M11xR2 Screen goes light-gray after entering powersaving mode
