How is this laptop for a girl? Do we have some ladies here who own one? Do you think an average female will like this?

Apart from it being rather small it can last for upto 6 hours!

So I am sure she will like it. ;)

EDIT: I originally just typed "" however it said that it's too small and I should lengthen it!!! How appropriate!

    Thanks.
I guess I'll keep you two responsible then ;)

Btw, can I upgrade its gpu if I want to?

I'm thinking of putting my 580m in case I upgrade my unit.

CPU and GPU are both soldered.

580M would never fit and would be as big as the motherboard let alone it would never be cooled by the M11x one small fan.

This is an 11 inch model mid range GPU's built into the board only would fit these models and the 540M is the only option offered by Dell.

The M11x R3 would also suit the female perfectly.

If you're one of those "girly" girls you can even change the keyboard back-lighting to pink and show it off to your friends.
Inevitably you'll probably also find the adorned Alienhead logos..."cute"....

My wife liked my m11x and would always take it to use over her dell 1010, so I got her one. She loves it, has her lights set to pink. Doesnt play any games, but likes that its fast, she can watch "the bachelor" on it.

I didn't consider Mac because she doesn't like it. As for Mac's build/form/looks, I think there are lots of ultrabooks out there now that can match them. So I dont think MB Air dominates the girl buyers or if they do, maybe not that much now.

Anyway, thanks for the reply guys. I am going for it. I want to get the nebula red but they dont have it anymore so it's gonna be black.

I just bought a nebula red but kinda wish I had gone for black! Maybe it's just a case of wanting what you can't/don't have!

If you go Mac forget gaming they are just not suited to gamers even the larger ones with newer mobile cards the OS is just not gamer friendly.

@Tomcannon trust me you are not missing out on that much I do like the black but sometimes wonder if the red would have been nice I only went black because I am anti red from my football team ;)

Nah red is ftw. got a soft-touch red on my R3 and black glossy R1 and the red is definitely better... Don't think i'd like soft-touch black tbh, i think it would show fingerprints more than the red :/

Dell dont have red anymore so I went for the black. Delivery date is 12th June.

I7, 2GB GPU is $1100 with 15 months warranty and free $72 bag.
    I5, 1GB GPU is $900 with 12 months warranty.

The +3 months extra warranty and the bag will not be given free as customer satisfaction for I5. If I get I5 and order the bag separately, total is just going to be $128 less than the I7.

I took the I7, for that reason and also my wife is going to use it for at least 3 years for sure so might as well get the higher one. She bought her HP Dual Core which still look brand new until now in 2008.

How many years warranty did you guys get when you bought your M11x? Is my 15 months enough? Or should I extend it?

I got an extended warranty for my M17xR3 because I know I would be using it to the max but I doubt if my wife can even trigger the fan by using her R3 doing her stuff

You will pay a lot extra for the additional warranty and you should not need it the only real problem was the hinge on the older models which has been fixed in the R3 so apart from general hardware issues along with these models being very well made you should not face a problem and if you needed to repaste in a few years you could easily do it yourself.

As the M11x R3 I7 is currently the most powerful you can get as we wont be getting an R4 it is probably worth the extra 500mhz you get from it, especially with a free bag ;)

    Update:

I just got the M11xR3 I ordered yesterday. Got some minor problem with Dell cancelling my first order without informing me because the bank took time to authorize the payment. But it was over the weekend so I dont know why Dell cant wait.
So an agent help me post another order. After a day, Dell reinstated the cancelled order so I had 2 laptops coming at one time. I also got charged twice :(
So I managed to cancel the supposedly cancelled order and finally got this baby! :D
She is so beautiful! I didnt imagine that she will be that handy. It was LOVE AS FIRST SIGHT for her! She really like her. Its hard to explain how happy she is when she saw it. I let her open the box.

I was so afraid she wont like it and we might have to return it because I thought it will come as thick as my M17xR3 lol. But instead, the first time she turned it on, she asked me to make the lights PURPLE :p

Thanks guys. I know I chose the best 11" laptop for her.

Edit: Now I want one for myself :(

I'm a girl and I love my M11x, but I'd like it more if I could have cats and/or flowers on the boot-up screen instead of the ET creature - maybe someone knows that it can be done and can give me easy-to-follow instructions?

    ;)

Edit: beaten to it! That's the exact guide I was thinking of!

Oh that's easy. Off the top of my head, go in to control panel and account settings and there you can change your picture, password etc.

That's what I've already done - you can't do the boot-up screen from there :)

Oooh my bad! So you've changed the red log on/off Alienware background and you've change the user account picture. So it's the AW head that shows when first booting, with intel written below and a red progress bar that you want to change/remove?

Hopefully that will clear things up and somebody may be able to help as I haven't got a clue about changing that!the thought never even occurred to me hence why I misunderstood you!

Thank you, YungDad - I haven't tried it yet, must wait until an unaccustomed alert feeling overtakes me ;) but I shall after I've read the thread on Windows7 Forums.
