The Dell euro site had taken down the I7-2617M option a few days ago and now its been replaced by the I7-2637M.
I7-2637M stock - 1.7 GHz, Turbo 1C/C2 - 2.8/2.5 GHz, GPU/Turbo 350/1200
I7-2617M Stock - 1.5 GHz, Turbo 1C/C2 - 2.6/2.3 GHz, GPU/Turbo 350/950
I also noticed you can now choose the amount of vram on the GPU section.

I am betting money this has to do with all the returns they have had due to the optimus issue with the GT 555M Video Card. People where returning them like crazy because it kept failing to load properly or would crash the system when they started a game.
-
GT 555M ?
what does that has to do with anything?
Anyways, it is nice theres some more options now, if 2637 was available when i was buying mine i would've got it for this price...
EDIT:
Intel Core i3-2357M @ 1.30GHz 1650
Intel Core i5-2537M @ 1.40GHz 2439
Intel Core i5-2467M @ 1.60GHz 2213
Intel Core i7-2617M @ 1.50GHz 2903
i got the 2537, which was offered on day 1 pretty much, scored are passmark CPU taken off cpubenchmark.net (gotta give creds where creds r due)
i couldn't find the score for 2637M, but by the number i'd expect it to be a little bit more powerful... though strangely the I5 they switched to appears to be a bit less powerful? Could be the reason why i get a bit more heat off of mine than others seem to report, also a tad strange to downgrade, considering its alienware and performance and all that.
Also, whats the point of picking how much Vram you want, since its only for I7 anyways plus it costs nothing to add the extra 1gb, even though it probably wont do much considering its a mid range GPU...
anyone has more insight on the difference between the 2617 and 2637? would be interesting to know the full specs...(i get nerdy like that) -
-
and for the second part, if you pick I7 CPU, you can pick 540M with 1gb or 2gb RAM, which is the option i don't really get, as it is free to get the extra 1gb... Maybe they are still updating it and it is just a giglitch in the system. Just seems like a weird option to give... -
They must be updating it still... When I was looking this morning it didn't have an option at all.
-
Yep, still the same options here on the USA regional site. i.e. the i7 - 2617m with the gt540m and 2gb memory is the top end M11x offered. No options available to change the video memory or processor shown in the build area here.

i don't think soon is that soon, Johny.
Considering there aren't any benchmarks for 2637M, I'd guess its a new chip from Intel and not just a switch to something else by dell... They probably just received a batch of them or something...
And Johny, if it says 2617M on the invoice, 2617M you get... You shouldn't get your hopes up about it. -
Guys, the first reviews we ever got of the R3 had the 2637 chip, then on release we only got the 2617. Go check out all the pre-release reviews and they'll give you the performance stats and benchmarks you're after.

i5-3427U
i7-3667U
Both rated at 17 Watt and look like a excellent fit for the future replacement R4 -
well, Dell still has room for improvement with current i5-2557m (1.7/2.7 ghz) and i7-2677m (1.8/2.9 ghz)
The fact that i5-2557m is better than the i7-2617 and almost on par with i7-2637m is probably a stopper along with marketing and profit issues. -
IKAS, true but unless dell offers a new and improved GPU with the Ivy Bridge I dont see many people trading in their r3's for 2-3 hundred mhz CPU clock speed.
-
If the R3 to R4 follows the same pattern as the R1 to the R2 did with only a processor change and a few of the ports being removed/ exchanged then I won't feel the need to upgrade.
But from the info IKAS posted then the new i7 would be 600Mhz faster - I may be persuaded yet... -

I just got a new M11X in a couple of days ago. The invoice said 2617 when I ordered it, but it whenit got here it has a 2637.

So they replace the "old" i7 with the new and the price stay the same?

mmmmm hmmm mmm~
looks like it changes at some point today (dell usa)
now this option is now avaible:
Intel Core i7 2637M 1.7GHz(2.8GHz w/Turbo Boost, 4MB Cache)
also at the same price :3 -
I have an R2 and it's still going strong. I probably won't be looking into upgrades until Ivy Bridge and I'm interested to see what they do with the R4, but to be perfectly honest, I don't think I would buy another M11x unless they do a redesign. The specs are getting better which is nice but what it really needs is a new design to fix the hinge and heat issues, and even better a matte + higher res display option.
-
This horrid display is what keeps me from considering another M11x. Until they fix this, I'll pass from upgrading my R2.
-
-
I love my r2 and it's basically become my favorite gadget of all time, but ... the screen is just awful. -
as an option yes... but by default its just too expensive. Especially out of the US market
