Hi, the screen backlight in my m11x stopped working while one of the hinges completely broke from the case, so I was wondering if there is any way of turning it off/on from windows so I could determine whether the led went off, device which automatically detects if lid is closed is broken or its something else.

    Thanks for any help!

i don't believe you can turn it on/off in windows.. most you could do is set it to "do nothing" when you close the lid..

however you are entitled to a one-time warranty hinge repair (even if you're currently out of warranty) for R2 and R1 models due to faulty hinge design...

"Out of warranty M11x-R1/R2 customers will be provided a one time onsite service to get the new hinges."

If the backlight is out because of a broken hinge, I imagine the wires that feed the backlight have been cut.

If you want to test the open/closed detector, hook it up to an external monitor. That should allow you to use the computer. You could check to make sure that the computer is set to do something like go to sleep when you close the lid. Then when you close the lid the external monitor should shut off.

Hmm I disassembled it to the point where I could just take out the screen, turned on the power and it started working o_O I think the pins connecting the screen might have loosened a bit earlier but since I don't really know this stuff I'm just guessing.

    Thanks for help anyway!
