Anyone play Minecraft on their M11X? It constantly freezes for me all of a sudden. And I'm not overclocking or anything like that.

I have similar problems on my 13" MacBook Pro. I heard there was some issue with Nvidia cards. I really hope that is not the case even on Windows Machines... Hope to hear more :)

Does yours freeze immediately? My game freezes within an hour or so of playing. I'm thinking it could be the drivers, as it used to run perfectly before these drivers and the latest update.

I'm running the 266.58 drivers I believe. I turned off overclocking in BIOS and it still freezes.

    I'm running 266.58, I don't freeze.
Did you try backing up your world, delete the appdata/roaming/.minecraft folder, then start with the launcher again?

Make sure you back up your appdata/roaming/.minecraft/bin/world folder!
then delete the .minecraft folder, start launcher, make a new world, close it. Then restore your backed up world.

    Hope this helps.

On the subject of minecraft make sure the java.exe that minecraft uses is white listed in the nvidia drivers. I find the game runs less then desirably on the intel chip.

I have no issues running Minecraft on the R2 (other then the 1.6.x updates but that's a different story). The trick is to right click the Minecraft shortcut and run with the Nvidia card, OR you can whitelist the "javaw.exe" program that is found in the Program Files/Java/jre6/bin (or close to that). Note: I was successful in whitlisting the "Javaw.exe" file from both the 'Program Files' and 'Program Files (x86)' Hope that helps.

Edit: I play without Thottlestop, speed fan or any of the other overclocking programs just fine.

I have updated to java 64bit, and I still encountered these freezes. My problem is not with using the nvidia card, it's that when I use intel the game lags considerably, but when I use nvidia it crashes randomly, like OP said.

Some users report that the crashing stops when playing in the browser on the minecraft.net site vs the local exe on you computer.

There is a known bug that render distance on far on some 64 bit machines causes random freezes. set it to normal. mine hasnt had this issue, but my pc did. and my buddy's pc had the same issue. when set to normal distance the issue goes away. minecraft forums have more on the bug if you want to double check.

I've reinstalled java 64 bit and that worked for just a little while. After that it just reverted back to normal.

I run minecraft maximized, but get stuttering without nvidia graphics ON, with nvidia graphics ON I can run the game smoothly without any problem, fancy and render distance far, no fog. It's beautiful

What m11x you own? maybe its a optimus issue, you should add java to the whitelist

Let me know your m11x model

I use m11x R2. My problem is not with stutter or anything, It's just that after a little while of playing, every single time, it randomly freezes. I have to ctrl+alt+delete and stop minecraft (If I can) and then hard kill my computer, then restart it to open any thing using the nvidia card again.

I believe Minecraft only supports its default rez. It IS Beta. Notch (the dev) announced that when it leaves Beta that Fullscreen will be supported. I only found all this out because I was maximizing the window on a 24" monitor (which looks gorgeous) and had horrible stability issues and went digging for answers.

I've found this to be pretty accurate. When playing on my 24inch i freeze much more frequently than on my native screen (which because of its size i just leave in its unminimized size).

Edit: then again it could be some sort of placebo effect following the reading of this post.

Minecraft is a very hard game to explain to people in a way that actually does not sound lame. If you're creative, It's almost like 3D pixel art or a sort of blocky "fantasy world" builder. If you're not creative, then in the purchased version, it is still fun to survive, and the closeness of developers and community really makes new updates exciting.

If your game is freezing frequently the fix for me definitely is turning off "Fancy" graphics and setting render distance to normal. Disable smooth lightning and Advanced OpenGL. Running strong for 3hours without any freeze ups. Usually froze every 10-15min

This is a bit unrelated, but I've heard some people compare this game "Terraria" to Minecraft. I picked it up for 9.99 the other day and it's pretty fun. Has anyone played this in addition to Minecraft, and if so... how does it stack up?

@darkdomino terraria is more focused on fighting, dungeons, and such. I would look up some lets plays on youtube to see for yourself. Minecraft is based more on building, with less mobs and one-room dungeons.

Any one have any idea what to do? I am reinstalling java right now.

Try installing Optimine and Optifog mods for Minecraft. They allow you to improve graphics far beyond the basics that are provided in the clean game. Further it allows you to decrease the graphics below what is permitted in game. For you I'd suggest the 2nd part.

Minecraft freezes for me after anywhere from 5min. - 1 hour of playing and then I am unable to kill the java.exe process. Therefore in order to even try playing Minecraft again I need to restart my computer.
