I was wanting to get an SSD for my M11x but they still cost too much for the size I would need to be able to fit on some games e.g BC2 etc. So I was thinking of getting a 250gb Momentus XT in the mean time.

I know for SSD's you need to enable AHCI in the bios but do you need to for the Momentus XT as it's a hybrid?

Can I get Acronis true image and image my install across or is the Windows leicense just for the HD it comes with? I have a retail copy of W7 I an use it will just mean I have to install everything.

AHCI should be enabled by default when the m11x came (or comes).

AHCI should always be enabled, for any storage drive, regardless of technology. It is vastly superior to the alternative (IDE mode) in just about every area.

There are very few circumstances in which you would want to consider leaving your drive in IDE mode. Go with AHCI.

You can use a drive imaging tool (e.g. Acronis TrueImage) to carry over your existing installation of Windows 7 onto your new drive.

Note that this works if you are *NOT* changing the AHCI / IDE mode. If you change the AHCI / IDE mode at all, then your Windows 7 installation will blue-screen crash when you try to boot up. There are ways around this. But I wanted to make you aware of this first, before you tried changing AHCI / IDE mode and crashed.

Ye I remember reading that. Right I'll wait and check it's on ahci before getting Acronis to image it accros.
