After debating buying a new M11x or a M15x I've finally decided to go the M11x way. My desktop is way more powerful than any M15x anyway so I decided to go for portability and battery life over system power. I have to be honest the idea of 6-8 hours of battery is great. I get around 3-4 now with my Dell 14.1" 640m.
I loved everything about the M15x but my concerns about its poor battery life and the sheer size of it compared to my 14.1" system put me off. I ended up getting a killer deal on the M11x and hope to enjoy it. I'm in Canada and I bought the following. Depending on how things go I may buy a larger Alienware in a year or so.

Congratulations! You have qualified for savings with your online purchase. - $200.00
Subtotal: $1,044.00
What do you think?
-
I think that you have just purchased a great machine... BUT I would honestly cancel and hold off until summer b/c the core-i series refreash is literally right around the corner. If you don't you might end up with buyers remorse.
-
I think you should wait a month or so as the refresh of that PC is coming very soon with i3 or i5 processor and a better video card. Who knows what else is improved in the M11X R2. -
Wow, so a new one is coming out in like a month? Any idea what the price difference will be? How does an i3 ULV CPU compare the the SU7300?
-
No one really knows much the refresh specs but expect an i3 or even i5 and better graphics, etc... The performance difference should be substantial but as Joker mentioned the refresh should be announced at E3 which is June 15th, 2010.
The wait is right now necessary. -
Ouch, a bit of a kick in the teeth for M11x owners like me.. didn't think they'd refresh it so quickly. I'll stick to my original plan and keep the C2D for 1.5-2yrs before i upgrade to whichever tech they'll have by then.
-
If you are outside of the timeframe for return, I would just keep what you have or sale it and then purchase the refreshed version.
It's not like the money loss on this will be huge. The PC is relatively cheap. -
This post can be deleted. My order has been canceled. I'll wait for the refresh.
-
The only way you can avoid these situations in computer world, is to never order anything ^^
-
Agreed, but my estimated delivery date was June 14th. I can wait that long, since I had to anyway, for an updated specs announcement and hopefully pricing. If I don't think the new specs are worth whatever the price is I'll just place another order for the SU7300 CPU version. I'd rather do that since I still have a great desktop and a laptop that works great for everything other than gaming.
If I needed a gaming laptop right now I wouldn't have canceled it, but since I don't mind waiting I might as well see what E3 brings. -
Yeah, if you don't need it don't order. Once you'll need it, you'll most likely be able to get a better specs for the same money.
I think their EDD's are a little off though. Mine was delivered something like 20 days ahead of their "EDD" ^^. Btw why SU7300? -
It was a special sale here in Canada. Was cheaper to get it with SU7300.
-
Oh Canada.
Oh Caaaaanaaadaaaaaaa....
No idea how will these new i-ULV CPUs perform though. It'd be more interesting if they'll put up a new graphics card. I don't get all the fuss about Optimus... I kind of like the manual switching. -
I like the idea of manual switching too. My only concern was the longevity of the CPU and its ability to perform in CPU intensive games. I think for 1366x768 on 11.6" screen Nvidia 335M is fine, but a little more CPU beef would be nice. My only concern is the M11x will begin approaching M15x prices. I'm willing to spend $200 more than I paid for my canceled M11x for a CPU upgrade as long battery life is still very good.

Wait until e3.
My new M11x is on the way :-)
