I just wanted to toss a big thank you out there to those that have contributed this this thread. It has helped significantly.

I just received my M11X this past week and have been installing games on it; new and old. I havent played much though as work has kept me busy. Tonight I started playing Neverwinter Nights 2 on it and after about 30 min I hit a huge bug with graphics glitches. It was well known and widespread on bioware's forums.

This thread helped me switch to stable drivers that fixed all the glitches! Not only that, and this could be coincidence, but since installing these drivers my battery life has increased dramatically. Right now with alienfx on my indicator shows 5hr, 90%. Before these drivers my battery indicator never showed more than 3 hours.

    Thanks again, everyone!

I just want to state my sincere grattitude and appreciation for those involved in developing and providing info for this driver update to us m11x owners. I have been playing SC 2 on low settings since its release and was very displeased with the abilities of this machine... Now I just finished my first match on ultra settings and it is amazing. Granted my FPS wasn't ideal, I should be able to run it all high+ with very playable FPS. Thanks soooooo much.

seems the link is dead, and the one i downloaded is "corrupt" and will not extract?

will post this in both threads.

Huge thanks for this...just did this update after Dell's official update broke NWN2 on me. Now I can finish the game :)

For some reason the FFXIV Benchmark still doesn't run with the GPU even when I use the context menu option.

it is running with the GPU. dont be fool by the end result of the benchmark that says Intel HD. While the benchmark is running look at the Optimus status in your taskbar it will show that its using the GPU

Well in that case I'm quite worried about the benchmark results ;) Hopefully the game is more playable than it seems to indicate. Give the games that this can play...I suspect I should just wait and see how it really runs in a few weeks.

dont expect this machine to run in super graphics mode for this game. We have some owners here who are beta tester for the game and have reported back before that they can run the game at a playable framerate. eg. in battles about 30+ fps and in town at about 20s. I expect this game to be more intensive on the CPU side rather than the GPU since that is the case for the previous FF. So I wont expect it to run great on this machine but suppose to be still playable to an extend.

one thing you can be assure with is you can ignore the benchmark as its known that the benchmark program is flaw. There are also people with really high configuration desktops along with GTX480 still getting crap numbers in the benchmark. You can search for the internet and should be able to find these reports.

Ok, that's good to hear. I definitely knew what I was getting into with this laptop but I needed something superportable to game with since I spend half my life in hotels. I never expected it'd run a game like FF at anything near the upper level...I do expect it to be playable though and it sounds like it is at least that :) I'll fiddle around with OC when I want to play it most likely.

And there's plenty of other games to play with it that run great!

from what i gather, the consensus is either the modded 258.96 drivers or the new dell 257.30 A01. The dell one has optimus support and was released recently, but i'm still trying to get feedback to see if this would be a sufficient choice over the modded 258.96. Anyone knows?

hi, i´m new to the forums and a i have a question.
If I download this new driver from the nvidia home page, will the optimus technology work??
I ask this because in the supported page from nvidia points out that Hybrid Power technology with Intel chipsets is not supported.
So should i download these or get the 257.xx from dell support
    thanks

I just installed the official dell drivers (257.30) last night and SC2 was running much better at Medium settings now. Didn't get a chance to try High settings yet. Should these 258.96 drivers definitely allow running High? I suppose I should just give it a shot with the dell drivers. The dell drivers don't have that nvidia 'disply gpu in taskbar' option fyi. ...Anyone know if Mass Effect or games like Dead Space will run ok as well on the dell drivers? haven't had a pc in long time (went over to a ps3 for awhile) seems nothings changed with pc games and thier graphics problems/drivers/video cards etc! lol

Mass Effect 2 runs smooth as butter with max settings on the dell drivers. I have the M11xR2 i7.

I installed the 258.96 BETA drivers and...

I get kicked from Modern Warfare 1 and Bad Company 2 servers. Punkbuster gives me the "Multiple Direct3D Loaded" error for both games.

    Suggestions, anyone?

videotape yourself slitting your wrists and have your family forward the video to Evenbalance and Nvidia cuz thats about the only way it seems either of them is going to fix this issue.

I have seen several posts asking on several threads, but haven't seen an answer anywhere: Has anyone compared the 258.96 to the stock driver? The 260 driver doesn't seem worth it going by that thread.

This is by far a better driver than the stock, no contest. Best overall I think personally. Stable for most almost all games, just got the PB issue to deal with otherwise much better performance and no issues with whitelist etc...

yeah, there were threads on this (258.96 vs stock), but I am not sure where they are. I think it came out as a beta driver first, so the benchmarks are probably in that thread. Also there is the gaming benchmarks thread. Search that thread with "258.96" and you will see lots of benchmarks that show FPS improvements. People were *really* happy with the performance of this driver once it was released.

This happened to me too. I followed exactly what was instructed. Kept re-downloading, re-trying the instructions again and again. It keeps saying "The Nvidia setup cannot locate any drivers that are compatible with your current driver.Setup will now exit"

im starting to regret this alienware m11x r2 machine...sigh...this sucks...some please help...

    m11x r2 i3 - proud owner (with regrets???) since 07OCT10

It explains how to modify the INF in laymen terms to get the drivers installing and running properly on our machines. It is straight forward and easy to do
