NVIDIA have just released the latest 285.27 BETA drivers if anyone is interested.
Doesn't look like there are any substantial updates for the 335 but a few updates for the 500 series so it may help out the R3's.

Cool DeeVu, tell us how you go. I think I'll wait until the final drviers are released to update, unless you find they are magical
We can always hope! -
They've released the 270 drivers which greatly improved the performance. Then they released the 280 which don't apply any fixes to the 300 series. Doesn't look good. I'm 90% sure there won't be any new drivers that affect 335m performance
edit: On a side note I installed them and played MW2. Normally I play without AA but now I play with AAx4 and get a couple more FPS than usual. I'd say its a success. -
-
Also, I know MW2 is not very demanding of this GPU because it is surprisingly well optimized. So I am going to try out BC2 and report back.
edit: And this will all be in 1080p (ill actually have a fps benchmark for this) -
Results for M11x-R3 in BC2 w/ new driver:
Map: Valpariso
1080p:
Min: 23fps
Avg: 33fps
Max: 35fps
Native:
Min: 29fps
Avg: 48fps
Max: 55fps
Compare with your current driver. -
The 285.27 driver is running really well on my M11x-R3. Great performance, and all the games I tried that didn't work right with Optimus with the stock Dell driver now work and perform flawlessly on the GT 540M card.
-
Glzmo: that's because the nvidia drivers completely disables the integrated intel GC-> no optimus
From a gamer-only stand point it's ok, but if you want to use your rig on the move the autonomy will we quite bad... -
-
The Dell drivers didn't switch to the Nvidia GPU properly with some games, like The Witcher 1 & 2, but the 285.27 (and I imagine some of the earlier ones as well) have a compatibility profile included for these games.
It's my understanding that, unlike with the old Hybrid Graphics, the official Nvidia notebook drivers are supposed to support Optimus by default and it certainly looks like it's working. -
I am pretty sure he is referring to the R1.
-
Is it even worth it to download these drivers for my r1 since its not adding improvements to the 335?
-
Nah. Not really even for the minimal optimus tweaks.
the only driver for the R1 worth updating to for performance is the 275.33
You lose switchable graphics but gain 10-15fps in some games.
(At least from results on my brothers computer) -
so what is the best drivers for the r1 performance wise? im using the 197.XXX ones that are on the dell website
-
The 275.33 gives the best performance. But you will lose the integrated graphics while you have them. You will need to set your GPU to discrete in BIOS before installing them also.
-
but using the most recent drivers doesnt do anything worse for the r1 right?
-
No. But you will need to uninstall the driver,
Go to bios,
Change to discrete and install the new one
You will lose about 2-3hrs of battery life because the gnu will always be enabled. -
I'll download 'em & test them out for the R2.

to the op:
did nvidia update notify you of these? in the update settings with 280.26 drivers i have "include beta updates" checked yet i was still not informed of these. in fact, i don't think nvidia update has ever worked for me. -
Ok so my 3dMarks06 score went up maybe 400-600 points (the reason is not definitive because I measured at different resolutions).
3dMark06@1280x768 - 9333 3Dmarks - BEFORE NEW DRIVER
3dMark06@1024x768 - 10178 3Dmarks - AFTER NEW DRIVER
I'd definitely recommend R3 users to pick this bad boy up. -
I've never bothered with Nvidia update, I just let other people on this forum notify us of new releases. That's probably just as quick! -
-
My comp died and I realized that. I posted that on my tablet. As soon as I finish I'll rerun the test. I'm just giving a baseline.
-
Ok so I ran it again and got roughly 260 points better than previous drivers.
9596 3Dmarks (before Driver my score was 9333 3Dmarks)
Could be a little bit better in CPU test because I was in a rush and didn't close browser and other apps ( but none were that intensive) So round to about 9600-9650 and you have roughly a 300 pt gain. -
Nice score People are getting closer to my 10063 point mark. Maybe I should worry about getting de-throwned
-
What did you run it at? Standard settings?
Whats your overclock?
I'll rerun it later to be more precise. It was a sloppy run right before class.

Do you all think that this new driver may finally fix my NVLDDMKM BSoD (on the M11x R2) crashes when I play games?
I believe I have done everything possible to see if I can correct this issue.
New install of the OS (with all patches and all Dell drivers installed to factory) with nothing but the most current driver and EQ2 and BSoD. Another new install with driver 260.x and EQ2 and still BSoD. Then there is the New install and all win patched and ALL Dell drivers including the Dell GT335 Video driver and still crashes. I have done a ton of research and still have not found a solution to this challenge. It happens so random - sometimes 30 mins, sometimes 4hours. I have checked heat and it does not appear to be overheating. I even got a cooling pad to assist with heat - still BSoD. I have unclocked everything - I have over clocked everything. I think the only thing I have not is drawn the pentagram on the floor and got a bucket of chicken to assist.
Thoughts? -
Not likely as I think thats a hardware issue on the r2 line up. You could underclock it though (or weirdly some have had success overclocking).
Edit: I talked to a Nvidia Rep at PAX Prime and showed him the issue with 3ds Max. He confirmed the issue after he checked my settings. He said he would try to raise the priority of getting this fixed. As normally they saved the Max fixes for the Pro line of graphics cards. I pointed out that most game developers work on commercial hardware since thats the target. (The slow screen response to rotating the models in DX mode). -
I dont remember what my settings are but they are in the bench thread. If I wasnt in afghanistan at the moment I would be able to find my old settings

Thank you for the suggestion M11Ash - I had done just that - I not only replaced 1 but both. And then I even went as far as using faster speeds to see if that helps. Thank you for the suggestion though.
2x2, 2x4, 4x4 - and even just a 4 by itself.
What is sad is that my warranty ran out last month so doing the AW support call may wind up costing me more than the unit is worth.

Great news to hear that optimus continues to work with the official nvidia drivers!
I guess I was misinformed and I am downloading the 285 drivers as I speak
Thanks for the correction!
