Hi guys, I just noticed that Dell has a deal on today only to save 239 dollars on the m11x.
It has 4 gb of ram, 500gb 7200 rpm hard drive, and only costs $999. The only problem is, with that deal you are locked into the core 2 duo processor (which means a slower-than-possible processor and no optiumus).
Do you guys think I should go ahaid and buy the m11x today, or do you think I'll be regretting not coughing up the extra money to get the i7?
Edit: sorry guys I forgot to mention this is in Canada, so if you configure the same one, it is around a 200 dollar discount. Apparently canadians can't get the free i7 upgrade deal.

it depends, as of right now people are still benchmarking games to look for a difference
in my opinion spend more on the faster processor. 2 gb of ram can be changed to 4 gb, and a 250 gb hdd can be replaced with a 500 gb hdd, but the cpu can not be changed. so i say go for the faster cpu even if it is at the expensive of another component since it is one component which can not be upgraded. -
A few weeks ago the same laptop with 250gb hd and bluetooth was $700 (it's $100 to upgrade from 250gb to 500gb so that system is $200 cheaper than what you have now--so I wouldn't rush into this 'deal').
Also, if you configure the system to have 4gb of ram and the 500gb hd, it's only $986.50. I'm not sure where you're getting that you save $239; it looks to me you're losing $12.50.
edit: as for which system, it depends on your usage and budget. The I processors aren't that big a bump in speed for quite a bit more (if you don't get a deal) and less battery life. You should really consider your uses for it and check the myriad of threads on this topic already and make up your own mind. There is good info in them. But if you really want a suggestion, I'd upgrade to the I7 only if you're going to keep it 3 or more years. Otherwise, you're better off saving the extra money for when you buy that new laptop. The argument that you can't upgrade your cpu so you should get the fastest one doesn't matter if you are buying a new laptop in 2 years or less because you'll be getting an upgrade to the cpu then, and in 2 years or less there's not much that's going to make you regret not getting 10% speed bump (i.e., there's not going to be anything that is unusable on the R1 and perfect ont he R2 w/I7). But, again, it depends on your uses. -
there is also a deal with the m11x where there is a free i7 upgrade for the m11x

It's wild how much the price on these laptops moves around from day to day. Last week people were paying just over $800 for the laptop above with a 160GB versus 320GB hard drive. Just seems like there are a lot of opportunities to get a better price.
-
Yeah, that's why I'm asking your personal opinions, what you guys think.
-
I bought this week and went with the second revision m11x with i7, 4GB of RAM, the 160GB hard drive (because I intend to replace it with an SSD the moment it gets here)... All because that seemed to be the best bang-for-the-buck, with longevity of the platform in mind. I intend to use the m11x for a long while and wanted the most horsepower (from the processor) from the start. If I were in your position I would consider getting the i7.

wait it out if you can prices will drop and if you want the best deal currently 2 options find a buddy accross the border to order the i7 for $1099 or call dell and use EPP and try to haggle on the price once they give you the total tell them "OH thats too high i wish it was lower i don't have enough to cover i wish it was $100 cheaper" or some like like that lol. i got in on the epp deal with $100 off like 1.5 weeks ago and yeah i agree prices fluctuate alot

Looking at that deal I don't see it as being something you absolutely need to go with. I'm not sure if prices or more in CA, but I got a i7 with 4GB and the 160 GB HD for less than that on 6/15.
I think you are better off doing your research about the overall prices and any coupons that are currently available and the pull the trigger when you see a really good deal. Unless of course you need a notebook now. -
I'm not in need of it now, but yes the prices are generally higher in Canada. I'm just a little nervous because I leave July 4th until late augest, in which I won't be able to order one. I'm just nervous that this might be the best deal I can get before then.

just built an i7, 4gb 160gb, and BT for $952 with free ship and tax for USA EPP. you need to find some buddies across the border or look into mail forwarding service. I will post up the screen shot you can login to EPP website and get 10% off and then $100 off $999 with code DHBXMTCSSJQ62K

after working on it hours and hours and reading pages long forums thats what i end up with.
allright i just put an order but if i find out a better discount i will cancel it later. first of all i tried the boing discount and it only gave a 16% discount and couldnt combine it with any other discounts (unless you guys have any other ideas) so i tried the epp dicount with sales rep on the phone and this got me a better price(eventhough sales rep didnt give me any additional discount or better deal. From him i got exactly what i would get from the link i posted below.) we started from this link Find a Laptop, Notebook, Desktop, Server, Printer, Software, Service, Monitor or TV at Dell. | Dell --->>> indeed I got 4 gb ram, i7, 320gb, bluetooth, tax(88$ to new york) and shipping included total 1089$$$ everything included. Sound good or can i get bettter deal???
edit: used the 100 off coupon too, forgot to mention.
Need opinions fast!
