Okay, just got my first Alienware today, it's the m11x R3. Got it up and running, set up, and got everything installed. Now I'm trying to run old republic and it keeps crashing to desktop. I'm downloading updated drivers, hopefully that will fix it. Any other ideas? I've been searching this forum and others trying to find the answer. Still am. Also, how do I "whitelist" something? I see all kinds of references to it, but can't find a how to anywhere. And the turbo boost overlock on the CPU? I have it enabled in the bios, is that all I need to do? Does it just kick in automatically when it needs to or do I need to change something else.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. I'm still trying to find these answers on my own, but if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.

To whitelist a game, go to your Nvidia control panel (just search for it in the start menu), then click on "Manage 3D settings". If the game is not already in the drop-down box, browse for the .exe file to add it. Then, make sure the game is set to use the "High Performance Nvidia" card. You can also tweak specific settings for the specific application or for global settings. One particular thing you probably want to do is set pre-rendered frames to 0 (globally) and set the Nvidia preferences to "maximize quality".

Your CPU overclock should be fine, just the BIOS.

Ah, thanks! I'm still ending up with the game crashing to desktop every time it tries to start up, but that may be something I need to search the SWTOR forums for. Thanks again!

Not sure if it is related, but I found a lot of the preinstalled bloatware functioning really badly and crashing all sorts when I got mine. Basically removed anything Dell (backup, cloud, etc) and Alien Respawn as well which was causing all sorts of .NET issues and been fine since.

id search the m11x forums for the SWTOR thread. The SWTOR forums tend to get people who dismiss 'laptop gamers' even though we can run it fine.

also this forum will be immensely more helpful and responsive to your issues.

i have an r2, so i cant help= ( SWTOR runs great for me, and the R3 should be even better

    enjoy.

Yeah, apparently it was yesterday's patch that was causing the SWTOR issue, all fixed now and SWTOR runs great!

I'd heard many bad things about that patch from trawling the web yesterday... didn't quite put 2 and 2 together! Sorry, mea culpa!
