the dx9 fix works for me now,turns out it was something to do with xfire causing the crash, turned it off, works fine now, just tweaking settings now![]()
-
I put in the DLL file and then did the little trick where you switch it off the whitelist with the launcher open, then back on.
Works just like FO3 now. -
Here is what I have done to get Fallout New Vegas to run fast enough to be playable:
Copy the older directx dll to the FNV game folder (already mentioned in this thread)
Set the graphics quality to low with the FNV launcher.
Update to the newest Nvidia drivers.
In the Nvidia control panel change Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance.
Use ThrottleStop with TDP set to 20.
Use GameBooster to stop background services.
Overclock to whatever you can reliably run FNV.
Disable SRS (only applies to the newest HDAudio drivers):
Control Panel > Sound > Playback Tab > Rclick Speakers > Properties > SRS Tab > then uncheck the SRS box
Change the windows power scheme to High Performance.
Once in game press the ~ key and type "ToggleEmotions" without quotations.
Modify Fallout.ini, FalloutPrefs.ini, and Fallout_default.ini with the following.
Add this under the [control] section:
fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0
fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0
fForegroundMouseBase=0
fForegroundMouseMult=0
Change these variables to the following values:
iPreloadSizeLimit=104857600 (or if you have 8gigs of ram set it to 209715200)
uInterior Cell Buffer=12
uExterior Cell Buffer=144
iPresentInterval=0 (this disables Vsync, which gets rid of mouse lag)
iFPSClamp=60
bUseThreadedAI=1
iNumHWThreads=2 (must be added under bUseThreadedAI)
Note: I made sure that all three of the ini files contain the same values for the variables. Sometimes one of the ini files will override another, so having all three with the same values should make it work.
Hope this helps. -
@KJHawk
After doing all your tweeks my game went from an average of 19FPS to unplayable. I'm not sure which aspect has done this I'll go through and let you know. -
using m11x R1, DLL fix works great, before the fix my FPS drops to 7fps whenever i talk to any npc. After the dll fix fps stayed at constant 60fps indoors, and 40 outdoors with the high preset settings.
-
i cant actually find the exe. file when im in the nvidia optimus screen. when i click add, the falloutnv icon shows itself as a non exe. file. so when i close it down and open it again, its gone back to how it was before.
is this just me or am i doing something wrong? -
I just downloaded the game today...and yes we can say the engine is the problem but in my opiniosn. I got fallout 3 in ps3 and the graphics are not as good as the new vegas version on pc. I dont know if I can compare but I see some new textures. Mine is laggy on medium settings. Funny thing: my fps drops when Im inside a house/building whem i'm outside is almost perfect. So when we can expect a patch guys?
-
Sorry to hear eatthestates. I'm able to play on High, but I run into stuttering when the game loads objects. The only things that could have slowed down your game are in the ini files. You could try reverting those settings back.
iPreloadSizeLimit=26214400
uInterior Cell Buffer=3
uExterior Cell Buffer=36
iFPSClamp=0
bUseThreadedAI=0 -
if I do that is there any chances that I get negative effects?
-
I got this game over the weekend from Amazon- had the same problems with my R1. Gave my laptop its .dll fix and now it's all happy.
NV is mega-fun. Makes me want to play the original 2 Fallouts on it.
-
Just downloaded the newest nvida 260.99 drivers. Given that Fallout New Vegas was one of the games mentioned in the update, I'm happy to report that my R1 now runs at an almost constant 60 fps on medium settings with mild tweaking (turn off water effects, while increasing some of the draw in distances-- it's no fun to have a bunch of fiends magically appear coming down on you) and the .dll fix.
The only time I'm having any stuttering right now is at heavily populated areas, like the strip and certain casinos, though it's not predictable; sometimes I'll run right through the same areas without a hiccup, sometimes it'll be annoying the entire time. The inconsistency of this makes me think that this could be solved in a future patch/tweak. -
Is anybody running the game smoothly with an R2? if so, how have you done it? I have the 260.99 drivers, but I still see the game fps 20 or lower with the nvidia GPU... I have it on medium settings with water reflection/refraction off. Shadows off.
-
default detected settings, and I am running fine. I only played until "learning survival" from that person you find at the bar, however.
-
Did you change the .dll file?
-
Which file? Is there any links for it?

Hey guys im trying to replace the numbers from the .dll file but when I put save It says can overwrite because it read-only. When I put read only off I save and start the game I dont see any improvements when i go back to the text is the same way that it was before. HELP?
-
Just bought this game and after doing most of the tweaks here, I find the game running substantially better...
Only issue is I'm an R2 user, and I'm having the Launcher cycling problem when I try putting the .dll file in the NV folder. The workaround seems to do it's job, but I wish there was a more permanent solution... when it does work, High settings are a breeze (I usually put AA to x2 to help smooth). -
I have the same problem, hopefully they'll fix it in the next patch or until someone find a better solution.
-
Don't start the game from the launcher (launch it from the falloutnv.exe) and you won't have to do the dll fix everytime.
-
Running this on an R2 as well - how are you launching directly from the exe? When I click on falloutnv.exe in the steam/steamapps/common/falloutnewvegas folder it still pops up the launcher window and I get the launcher loop when I hit play (workaround works fine, just annoying). Thanks!
-
If you guys take a gander at the Fallout NV Nexus forums, you'll come across the 4GB exe file to start the game not only does this allow you to utilise more ram but it stops the launcher from opening every time too
EDIT: Here is the link http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35262
Happy gaming -
i can confirm that the file M11Ash linked stops the need for doing the optimus workaround but if u want to change video settings u have to do all of bypass as normal then just run file every time u want to play
-
Awesome, works great - thanks!

News about the game:
Fallout: New Vegas ships 5 million, more patches incoming | Joystiq -
Hi, I'm new here so excuse me for any potential lack of foresight I may display.
Basically New Vegas refuses to work on my M11x R1.
I press play on the steam library list, at which point the launcher starts.
I press play on the launcher and nothing happens.
I initially thought it was a corrupt file so I redownloaded it from steam. No dice.
Got the latest driver from the Nvidia site but that caused problems with the intel card and I had to roll it back.
So basically the laptop is stock.
What am I doing wrong?

Newest Fallout 3 update 1.2 . Fixed the problem with Nvidia card . Just patch it and enjoy the game . won't need to do anything else . -
The game is running perfect now no freezing but It still crash for no reason.... so they still need to fix that.

M11Ash- Did you have to do anything special to get this to work? Especially to get it to work more than once? I extracted to the desktop and all it did was give me an error. I extracted to the Steam/steamapps/common/falloutnewvegas file in an actual file it gave me the same error, I extracted to the same file but no seperate file and it worked once, I shut it down to change the game settings and it wouldn't work it pulled up the launcher, I restarted and tried everything over again and it still pulls up the launcher now. If you or anybody really can help me it would be awesome as the one time it worked right it was awesome to not have to do the pain in the butt workaround. Thanks!

Does anybody still have the non-modded stock .inf file for new vegas that they can send me?
-
Ok Dane first off all update to the latest patch and download an un-modded inf or reinstall the game, after this is done extract the 4GB files into the steam/steamapps/commonfiles/falloutNV file. Then shortcut the 4GB exe to your desktop or wherever you are going to want to launch the game from. Then start up Fallout using the standard exe (using the GT335) while in the launcher go to your nvidia settings and force falloutNV exe to use the intel gpu. now set max setting etc and run the game. Quit game.
Next set 4GB fallout NV exe to boot on GT335, to add AA just change it to 'enhance application setting' and 'max performance' on the power setting in the nvida panel, now run the 4GB exe and enjoy.
Goodluck and happy gaming

Worked like a charm that way! Had to do a reinstall of it for the default .inf file, haven't done any mods or tweaking and I'm running on Ultra pretty smooth with only a hickup here and there! Thanks! +1

FYI, New Vegas is on sale at Direct2Drive this weekend. $35 for the digital collectors edition. You buy it from D2D and then it uses Steam to install anyway, so it is like getting it direct from Steam, only cheaper.
Now back to your regularly scheduled thread
Stain -
Add the coupon Load15 to make it about $29.
-
Picked up the Direct2Drive version. Just got the chance to install it today. Was preparing for war after reading this thread...installed it, made sure it was in the white list....booted it up... and.... nothing at all, ran like a champ. Have not experienced any slow down, lock ups, or other issues (hope I didn't just jinks it...).
Running it untweeked too. i7, 4 gb ram, no overclocking, etc.
Very pleased at this point!
On a side note, was anyone else disappointed in the steam sale? Picked up the orange box and l4d:2. But don't consider that an amazing haul. Was hoping to get Borderlands: GotY on sale or maybe a small deal on Civ 5. Oh well
-
borderlands GOTY edition is on sale on amazon at the moment i believe
at least it is in the uk -
for people with R1, has the latest patch for New Vegas improved performance?
I managed to run Fallout 3 on my R1 without any issue (first game I installed on my m11x) -
Simply put,
Installed game from steam 1 mth ago
Once in three times playing, game would crash and I would restart.
Today it started to do it often and now I cannot load into game.
It states that the Nividia 197 drivers stopped working but have recovered successfully.
Side notes:
I do not want to rid my computer of the hybrid graphics.
When I "alt+tab" to try and go to windows during gameplay, game crashes. Any ideas on this? -
Well, I just realized I have the preloaded Beta drivers (highlighted in yellow below). I'm going to download most recent dell drivers and see if this fixes the issue(s).
-
Ok so I installed the 197.72 drivers from the Dell website and upon finishing the screen went black with the loading circle and sat .. and sat. So after 10min, I hard booted down and upon entering windows
*Poof*
No errors and the Nvidia driver 197.72 is installed .. strange to say the least. Going to try my luck with New Vegas.
..Even if I am talking to myself.
-
This fixed it.
-
Good job filmm! Enjoy New Vegas, just make sure you take a good chunk of your life aside for it. It is really time and life consuming.
-
I am man, lovin' it!
Still think I'm getting low frames when in town, but I'll have to DL fraps and report back. -
Does anyone else have the problem with alt+tab while in game? When I alt+tab the game locks up and the sound repeats over and over. I have to shutdown the game and restart.
