Hey guys. I had my dell brand charger die on me last week and after verbally sparring with dell to try and get a new one out of warrenty they basically told me to f*** off. I thought I would be entitled to a replacement as it had been replaced before about 6 months ago but I still got a big F you. So I went on amazon and ordered a pwr+ charger that had a reviewer say it worked with his m11x, it came and 20 minutes later I heard a crack and the charger died. Needless to say I was quite pissed. Anyway has anyone here bought a charger and what kind? And hopefully one more reliable than the POS I got? Thanks.

I buy pwr+ chargers alot, I have a bunch of laptops at work (car scan tools, tough books)
The pwr chargers work for the most part, but sometimes they either fall apart, or just blow up.

My personal recommendation for the r1 is to get the "auto/air" charger from dell. Its slimmer than stock, has a plug for your car, you can change the length of cable to match your needs and they are like 20 bucks on ebay.

deadboy, are you in the US?

AC adapters are covered under the same warranty of your computer. If you're still in warranty it should be covered, however I'm not sure if this is country based and applies only for the US. Anyway, if you'd like me to help you out with this send me a PM with your service tag and I'll look into it.

I would take the Auto air, it is indeed more reliable.

If you just killed 3 power supplies in such a short time it might be possible you have other issues.

As for warranty I'm not getting the shock... you do not get warranty extensions. If however you have paid for the part/accessory it will carry its own warranty from time of purchase. If not done this way folks would end up with double warranties on MB's, cars engines, etc.

All that said, I'm not saying the bricks were fine or that you did anything wrong. Rather its just odd to have so many fail.

Well the charger came on monday and hasnt died yet so fingers crossed! There is something a bit wierd though. I wanted to test out the charger at its maximum power draw to see if it worked (Because it it cant pull it's maximum powerdraw without exploding then its just a matter of time anyway) So i ran Prime95 and Furmark at the same time with a 50% battery. When I do this however, I distinctly hear a high pitched squeeling eminating from my charger. It was loud enough that my girlfriend across the room was able to hear it over my desktop when i told her about it. I know ill never use that much power in any everyday task but is it anything to worry about?
