Hi folks! My name is Joey. I'm the proud owner of a M11x r1 that unfortunately has a fried mobo. My question is will a mobo from an r2 work for replacing mine? I figured while I was fixing it I might as well upgrade at the same time. Thanks in advance!!

Nope the mobo's are different because of the processors

R1 motherboard includes VGA port but R2 only has HDMI/DVI ports

Thanks for the reply! The different processor was kind of the reason I wanted to go with the r2. I didn't know if it would just be a matter of slight chassis mod to make it work or not. I found a relatively cheap one with the i7 processor and would have loved to get the extra power. I talked to an Alienware rep and all he would tell me was that he didn't really know but he would love to help me config a new machine and ship it right out to me. The last bit of proof I needed to know that Alienware truly is becoming Dell 2.0 lol.

well the r2 mobo for it to work you would basically need to hollow out the whole left side of the chassis, none of the ports will fit an r1 case. Trust me, get an r3 its far more worth it. (Much better processor, better GPU, etc.)

Someone tried this, I believe, and it was doable, but totally not worth it. There was all sorts of Dremel-ing and it was ugly and he had to buy other parts than just the MB.

The only original part left from the r1 was the lcd screen.... so, its better to just sell off your old one and buy a new one than to try to make yours into a r3/r2
