I have been reading everything I can find on here. Alot of useful information. I decided to restore my m11x r1 with the CD that came in the box. How can I delete the unused partion (if possible). Also what order and what drivers should I use from the dell site. A step by step to do list would help me greatly. I have restored a few other laptops before but this is my first Aleinware. Here is the service tag info if it helps:

My biggest issue is there are 21 drivers on the dell site. I dont think I need all of them and I would like to delete the unused partion to free up that space.

Check out this guide by unreal25, it has a lot of valuable information on the subject.

As to the installation - Dell recommends the next order:
    1. Desktop System Software (DSS) or Notebook System Software (NSS)
    2. Chipset
    3. Video Adapter
    4. Network Interface Card (NIC)
    5. Laptops Only: Dell Quickset or Dell Control Point Manager (DCP)
    6. Audio Adapter
    7. Modem
    8. Wireless Network Card
    9. Touchpad, Pointer, Trackstick, Mice, and Keyboards

Also it is worth keeping in mind that restoring the system from the CD won't give you the Alienware Command Center, necessary to control the AlienFX lighting effects. (at least it doesn't for an m11xR1)

By the way, I am curious of the reason you wish to do a factory restore from CD? Something went amiss - or you just wish to perform some "maintennance care"?

I'd say, restoring the system from its recovery partition might be a more straightforward and simple option, considering that the CD does not include the Alienware-specific software...

The recovery Partition got accidently formated when I put in the Cd. I just wanted to swipe the computer clean.

Do I need to install all of these drivers or only a select few?

I'll be restoring from dvd's with mine, because I'm swapping the HDD out. How do I get the Alienware command center software?
