Hey I thought I would start a new thread about the next replacement of the M11x because my comments don't seem to belong in any other threads haha. I'm not bashing the M11X by any means, but Alienware/Dell has to realize that their proof of concept became a huge success and they need to try to perfect the next iteration and make it even better for their target audience! :) Especially because I already have the funds set aside and have been considering the M11x which is slowly becoming outdated in this fast moving market.

I would like to see preferably a 12" form factor with a screen that mostly fills in the 12". An updated GPU, such as nvidia's new 445m, would work great in conjunction with the new Sandy Bridge i-series architecture processors, assuming they will release ULV editions at launch. Also a really solid build quality would be awesome and hopefully it wont have any faulty hinges. I love the current look but i am by no means an aesthetic designer so I have no idea how I would like a new one to look. But yeah saying i'm pumped about the next CES is a little of an understatement....

Just some of my thoughts. Others are appreciated also. Thanks

If history has a say, I'm sorry to say I don't think there will be Sandy Bridge CPUs in a release at CES, since the Core-I3/5/7 processors of the R2 came out around the time of the R1. In other words, they were a generation behind at the release and took 5-6 months after the CoreI3/5/7 came out to integrate the newer CPU architecture. Since Sandy Bridge is coming out Q1--meaning at best January 2011, the same month as CES and the same month the CoreI3/5/7 came out--it would seem their integration will again come about six months later. Assuming there's a new version for CES dubbed the R3, that would make Sandy Bridge CPUs part of an R4.

It's definitely possible they'll have a version that includes a new GPU, though. I'm not sure if there will be a whole form factor change, but they proved willing to change the case (though not hinges :/) with the R2, so that certainly is possible, also.

Yeah I know the i-series mobile processors were a generation behind when they were integrated, but when was wishful thinking a bad thing haha. Ignoring the time tables these are just some things i would really like to see in the next iteration/revision. It seems like its such a niche market which i really hope to see expand into the more mainstream users, creating more competition.

Funny avatar btw. If i could rep i would just for that.

i want to see a 12" or so screen and have the laptop be the same size as it is, since there's so much spare bezel around the current screen. also, it would help if the screen was much better quality.

I've barely even heard of AMD's APU. When is it supposed to be released?

Needs a matte screen. Gloss sucks!

I'd actually take an 11.6" chassis for the current size because it would fit my motorcycle's tank bag a little better, but I know that most people could use a 12" screen in the current chassis instead. Honestly, I'd take either.

Other than those, I want the arrow keys to be lowered so the right shift key will no longer be truncated. Why does the keyboard need to be perfectly rectangular?! For some reason, even more constrained netbook keyboards usually were (I chose an Acer Aspire one as my last specifically because it did not).

the next m11x is.... the m15x.. hd 5850, no optimess, any I series cpu I want. I bet soon you can get the 6850.

I am so strange sometimes.. Go from m17, to m11 and now to m15. It's the circle of life.. (single tear drop).

I'd also vote for a Gigabit Ethernet and perhaps a USB 3.0 ?
It is a high end machine after all...
A higher speed memory bandwidth could also help - which probably come anyhow with CPU platform updates.

The memory speed limitation is due to the CULV processor.

And yes the fact that here we are in 2010 with 100M ethernet on a brand new "high" end notebook is ridiculous.

Thanks. That's one the custom Fallout 3 OSD icons I've created for the M11x. Link for download and installation instructions in my sig.

I'm glad you were wrong! ;)

Let's see... USB3.0, Gigabit, Sandy Bridge, GPU upgrade, etc.
It looks like everyone got everything they were asking for but me. :(

Haha, this is a fantastic bit of thread necromancy right here - I was expecting some silly R4 speculation, but lo and behold! It was a silly R3 speculation thread from about 9 months ago! xD

Honestly, I really appreciate this necro or I may have never found those nice fallout 3 OSD icons.
